Those 10k gold dudes simply blow all their shekels on day 1 and save up afterwards. You can grind 12k gold per expansion, it doesn't matter when you spend them. Most anons start saving at the end of the first or second month of a set. Let's be honest, you don't need 10k to have a good start in an expansion, if you have 4-5k, you're good to go.
