2 New Concepts from Toyota

The GR-HV Sports Concept -
According to Toyota "It represents a new way to enjoy cars by integrating the thrill of a sports car with the environmental friendliness of an eco-car."

Features a targa top that was also used for Toyota's legendary convertible sports cars, the Toyota Sports 800 (a.k.a. Yotahachi) and the Supra

Powered by THS-R (Toyota Hybrid System-Racing) that is infused with hybrid technology refined by the TS050 Hybrid

Switching to manual mode is possible with the single press of a button, and 6-speed manual-style driving with H-pattern shifting can be enjoyed (the car is an automatic).

...

Apparently the car is auto with the ability to shift gears in manual too.

"A selection switch to choose the automatic gear position is located in the center cluster to achieve a racing car-like ambience."

No, fuck you Toyota, release this shit so I can go buy it right the fuck now.

What is the target audience of this piece of shit?

The hybrid battery is mounted near the center of vehicle. Installing the heavy battery in the center contributes to improved performance as a sports car.

I believe Toyota made a concept to see what the reaction would be from the audience.

the front looks like an old dude with no teeth

I'm not understanding what this stick is for.
It's an auto so is the stick just a placebo
Just a Fisher Price plastic fidget toy to play with
What does it actually do

I hope it fails.

When Toyota said the SF-R would cost $12-15k I felt my wallet tingle. I won't pay $25k for a fucking FR-S because it's not worth it. $15k for an SF-R would totally be worth it.

>tfw it's an all electric car but has torque curves for each gear to simulate manual feel

It's apparently Toyotas take on creating an eco friendly hybrid sports car while trying to create manual expereince. They may or may not produce it and that's why it's still a concept,

No you won’t. Last time Toyota got tricked into making 86. You faggots cried like little bitch. I hope Toyota don’t make any manual or sports Car.

NEXT CONCEPT - 2017 Tj Cruiser Concept

But there have been hybrids with genuine manuals

Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) intends to showcase its new crossover genre concept vehicle, the Tj CRUISER, for the first time at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. The Toyota Tj CRUISER represents the harmonious balance between the roominess of a cargo van and the powerful design of an SUV.

The Toyota Tj CRUISER was designed for drivers with lifestyles where work and play dovetail seamlessly. The "T" in Tj CRUISER stands for "Toolbox" in reference to how the car can be used like a toolbox, while the "j" stands for "joy" in reference to the joy of visiting various places by car. The name "CRUISER," which is traditionally used for Toyota's SUV lineup, is assigned to the Tj CRUISER to express the power of the vehicle. Inside, the passenger seat can be reclined completely flat, and not only can the Toyota Tj CRUISER easily hold outdoor equipment, it can also store large items such as 3-meter long surfboards and bikes.

Design

The square-shaped cabin, similar to that of a van, exudes high utility. Meanwhile, the sturdy suspension realized by large SUV-sized tires is fused with a bold front. The Tj CRUISER symbolizes a new genre incorporating the strengths of a van with those of an SUV.

The hood, roof, and fenders use materials (with special coating) that resist scratches and dirt, even when objects accidentally come into contact with them.

I don't know but has there been any hybrid sports cars with manual trans?

A little too long, but otherwise kinda neat

hahaha holy fuck that's terrible. jesus christ toyota.

Does toyota hate making money?

That's a cool looking car. The only fucking thing they have to do is drop a spunky little 8k+ 4 banger in the trunk and BLAM! 4th gen MR2.

People will buy it.

Predictions if this things goes to market:
it won't looks anything like this
it will be expensive.
performace will be decent, but it won't justify the price

>6-speed manual-style driving with H-pattern shifting can be enjoyed (the car is an automatic).
>(the car is an automatic)
actually laughed out loud
you just made a complicated and gay automatic even more complicated and gay by making it """simulate""" a manual

this is much worse than indian 318i faglords using tiptronic or paddle shifters

>shift denied

I don't know if it counts as a sports car but the CR-z was available con manuel. Was kinda fun to drive because of the torque shove, but as a package the thing was a bit shite.

>with the environmental friendliness of an eco-car."
Calling it now

Sports car
Automatic with paddle shifters and a fucking massive ass torque dip

Toyota tricked themselves into making the dumbest ass """sports""" car of the decade.

The GT86 killed the "sports car" the same way Donkey Kong 64 killed the collect-a-thon: By being a piece of dogshit when the creator has proven in the past they can make an excellent product.

People wanted "cheap" and Toyota gave us "more expensive than a V6 Mustang"
People wanted "sports" and Toyota gave us Prius tires and a huge torque dip.
People wanted "simple" and Toyota gave us a fucking strung-out boxer engine in a cramped bay.
People wanted "car" and Toyota gave us nothing but reasons to buy a WRX for the same exact price as the FR-S.

All of the car's faults could be excused if the price matched the product.

If they:
Fix the front
Make it plugin hybrid
Make it drivable on battery only (15 miles is plenty)

I'll buy one.

If they dont change the design of the front, would it be possible to shove pop up lights on it? It does have that wedge shape most 80s cars have

I don't get why people hate an S-chassis replacement. It has its niche alongside the Miata, many have longed for the return of a small 2+2 hard top. And please, anons, don't shit up the thread with benchracing, you miss the point of the two cars.

Cheaper than a miata, faster than a miata, more reliable than a miata, takes boost better than a miata.

Nigger can you not

Butthurt miatafag.

If you're making an electric drive car with a 300hp power plant, you don't use a manual transmission because thats stupid.

You don't use a stick on a CVT either, instead, put a big knob somewhere that manually adjusts how much transmission moves through its ratios, or just a switch between "good mpgs and no torque" and "maximum acceleration".

What they should do for electric cars is put a god damn oscilloscope in the car so I can mess around with the signal that goes into the motors.

Not what? Post facts?

Toyota deserves to be praised and shit on for this. It's not going to be good and we all know it and it should never had made it into production,
BUT, Toyota is based because they are at least attempting to save the manual sports car. More than other manufacturers are anyways.

i actually kind of like the design

grille could use some work, but otherwise alright

Me.
Except I want a hardtop. JUST MAKE A 2 SEATER HARDTOP AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY. it's like theyre not aware a car can have 2 seats without being convertible

List is bullshit

>cargo and passenger volume Shouldn't be on that list. Where talking about sports cars here

>Power difference is not a big deal either since nd weighs 400 lbs less,

>ND is actually faster 0-60 and has much better torque
Their both good cars, would choose ND for simple reason that it weighs less, better 0-60, looks better(objectively), convertible.

>videogamer manbaby tries to compare his shitty games to the automotive market
I bet you’re a busrider

>Toyota is based because they are at least attempting to save the manual sports car. More than other manufacturers are anyways.
Finally someone with a positivity.

>objectively
Youre stupid

>Weighs less but handles worse
>”convertible” as if thats a plus

>People will buy it.
No they won't. Let's say optimistically, they sell 5000 units in the first year. Hell, we can even pretend the car is a riot and they sell 15000 units the first year. Compared to the 20-30 thousand Corollas they sell every MONTH, there's no reason to make small sports cars for Americans. No one really buys them new.

This

Its not for busriders like Reminder that these are the same retards who whine for a new Supra but will never be able to afford it.

I hate soft tops, so the miata loses for me by default.

Why are you dragging me and my bus into this? I was just enquiring what a shift knob could possibly do in an automatic car
I'm not whining about anything
I know I'm too poor for a new car

Yeah, damn shame they never made an ND with a powered hardtop.

fuck man, if a hybrid looks like this then ill damn well get it

no more ugly ass Prius's

with that new electric car and this, is Toyota finally learning

>no more ugly ass Prius's
Get a Hyundai Ioniq. That is the only sane, pleasant looking hybrid on the market.

It even is giving slightly more than what a Prius offers.

>aftermarket only
Also the RFs hardtop looks hideous. Completely kills the aesthetic and the point of having a convertible in the first place.

Looks like shit

>its you’re not youre

ND looks better, go look at them in person their good looking cars.

Test drove one they handle very well actually. They dont have the typical stiff suspension for boi racers. With cheap suspension mods cars gets a more race suited driving/handling for track.

Stiff suspension is dog shit on streets regardless anyone that has ever driven cars like that know that the ride becomes uncomfortable for gains that cant even really used on street roads.

>buying korean
>ever
Lol nty I like quality

Nobody else gonna point out that this is literally an 86 with a bodykit? Nobody? I'm the only one who noticed this.

No dude. Unlike you, I can go buy 70k Supra when it comes out. New sports cars are not selling because faggots like you. You expect rwd light weight sports car with 300hp for under 20k. I am glad Toyota is keep fucking it up, just wait til the day when no one makes under 30k sports car. Happy to see manual going away, you have no one to blame but poor dumb kids like you

>grammar nazi
>needs cheap suspension mods
86 owners usually get better tires right off the bat, if we get to talk about mods. Thats not even counting new headers, which have been reported to fix the torque dip problem it faces.
Also, all of this was fixed on the latest models, so someone at Toyota/Subaru is listening to our bitching at least.

Found slaya lmao

>takes boost better than a miata

Nigga what? Those engines don't take boost AT ALL. The Miata can take boost all day

>tfw when bought a brand new stick shift manual Mazda Speed3 in 2009 (despite the shit economy) after I graduated
>tfw I’m being blamed for killing sports cars
Direct your anger elsewhere, user

>Those engines don't take boost AT ALL
Moron.

Ok, and some how you assume people can’t afford Supra ? Enjoy that shitbox.

>enjoy that shitbox
Thanks I will
Enjoy that hernia

The ND has less torque at every point in the rev range.

>Mazda 3
>sports car
Heh

Post your new sports car with a timestamp

Other people like myself being poor does not make a Mazda 3 a sports car. That's like saying a Focus RS is a sports car. Just no.

Every time. Every. Fucking. Time. Reasonable posts get ignored, retarded ones ruin a thread.

Damn someone is really sensitive about ms3. You got teenager boy racer car, don’t act like anyone cares. Funny how you talk shit but can’t even afford new sports cars. Enjoy that 30year old focus st. One day you will know the difference between sporty and sports car

>busriders get assmad when I ask them to post cars
So predictable

>DO YOU THINK YOU ARE IN CONTROL?

First gen Insight had a manual

The headlights vaguely remind me of the Group B/ S prototype AW11.

It's pretty fucking ugly, but I do like the extreme barebones feel to it. The 86 should have been this barebones. The targa top does nothing for me.
It is kind of interesting how it's a sport/commuter hybrid. Automatic for the commute, manuel for the weekend hooning.
The brakes look xboxhueg compared to how much power I'm expecting this to make.

It'd be better if they just made the S-FR, but I'm not in the market for new cars, so what do I know.

Also, I'm fucking ecstatic to see Gazoo Racing become a thing.

Is it at least rwd?
Or is it like the rav4, where you don't even have locking diffs

I guess anyone who don’t drive shitbox is bus rider.

>>its you’re not youre
>>their good looking cars.
Mfw
They didn't point it out because it's obvious

Is this b8?

Yes, it's RWD

The 86 has already sold over 6000 cars this year in North America, and it's been out for 5 years now. Sure, it won't sell like a Mustang, but it wont be a financial failure for Toyota. The platform they are using is already well established.

You are trying too hard user

>10 000€ ecotax malus.
>Frs is now 40k € aka 60k usd

>cheaper than a miata.
Kekismus maximus bud.

>Still hasn't posted his car

It's not our fault you live in a socialist hell hole

Keep in mind it weighs alot less though, so hard numbers arent quite what they seem in ND situation

I test drove ine, the torque on it was very good like a lot better than what i expected it tobe

Nips can't into design

>Toyota is based because they are at least attempting to save the manual sports car. More than other manufacturers are anyways.
dat delusional
Porsche, BMW, and Corvette would like to have a word with you.

I think it looks great, I'm glad they went with a targa top.

>Porsche, BMW, and Corvette would like to have a word with you.
All of which cost 50k or more

The new Nissan Z will likely be a CUV, and the new Evo is a CUV. The Miata is cool, but some people want a fixed top car. Toyota is the only Japanese company who is actually making an effort to produce affordable rwd coupes.

lmfao

>bmw
>4 door sports cars
Lmao @ (((Corvette))) this is great bait

>>bmw
door sports cars
It just works. Deal with it, sucker
>Lmao @ (((Corvette))) this is great bait
lol @ (((GTR))) having an autotragic.

>Toyota is the only Japanese company who is actually making an effort to produce affordable rwd coupes.
For now, yeah. They would stop offering it in the future.

Alright, that's it. Fuck Japanese cars.

As far as I'm concerned they only make motorcycles. Except for honda, they make scooters.

All they have to do is make it an actual sportscar, and cheap instead of loaded down with luxury

>What sells well
Base model miatas
>What doesn't sell quite as well
Optioned out "grand tourers" that seem to have become the standard for a "sports car"

It looks like a GT86 had it's teeth pulled and it's face is all swollen.

if they can make a 350lb, 180hp motorcycle for under 15k they sure as hell can make a street legal gokart at that price point

they just don't want to take the risk. normies would still classify it as a car and then they'd be that company that made the hideously unsafe $15k car that only did the bare minimum to pass safety and emissions standards, and was also built for pure speed with zero practicality and zero driver comfort. it's acceptable on two wheels because normies are already used to it. and that's it, sadly.

we'll have to leave it at kit cars.

$10k kit car + $2k in parts from a sportbike. Enjoy your plated gokart. and then bitch to your legislators because a lot of US states say it needs to have airbags and pass car emissions for its year to be registered unless it looks old, then you go boy we're the greatest generation!

love the styiling looks like the aw11 rally car.
I mean it's neat its hybrid offers more variety but I hope that means the new mr2, celica and supra won't be hybrids

They'll be hybrids with a fake H pattern manual because muh feels. This is the future of sports cars. They are marketed to feelsfaggots and posers, not fastfaggots.

holy shit its like a 2 seater manual sports car with great low center of gravity, insane handling, cheap price and lots of aftermarket doesn't exist

oh wait you hate it because you never drive cars or think drag racing is a sport

eh at least they're trying something.
Seeing manuals and petrol go does make me sad but let's not even pretend like used cars don't exist.

it exists but it's a fucking convertible

yes the very first thing that comes to mind when i roll onto the track is "i want to die in a rollover". and the very first thing i think when i look at a car is "i want to buy that, and then pay for safety equipment and chassis braces that should have been there in the first place". or it could have an actual fucking roof.

i have a CBR for being suicidal. if a car has an open top it better be open wheel too because convertibles are fucking retarded.

wasn't aware gt86 is an convertable

sorry i thought you were talking about the 24k miata not the 27k subaru that comes stock with prius tires

>boxer engines with fewer than six cyllinders
get it outta here.

Reminder that you'll never be able to drive the concept in any video games

oh I see you're just a benchracing faggot
Go on and suffer then just because you're retarded

Listen, if changing spark plugs is going to be that hard and every other job is an engine-out procedure you should at least get some actual power for it.

370z
350z
86
Corvette
Ezpz dude.
