UMVC3 does that animation while it is blackened to give the illusion of him pulling it from hammer space in a cartoony fashion
Now he just floats and flips 4 times in the air for no reason, and the animation is super jagged because its supposed to be for freeze frames during the super startup animation in UMVC3.
It just shows how lazy they are copying and pasting the animation despite the fact they literally aren't using it for its intended shot, and then on top of that, just have the prop appear out of nowhere above him.

It happenes with dantes level 3 too. When you activate it the camera just zooms in and you see him standing there looking like an idiot for a while before he starts fliping his sword. In mvc3 the black screen hides it until hes halfway through the sword flip animation
