The issue with that kind of game is that people like the game mostly for the cast... but not the MAIN cast

Eh, the main story starts out generic as all hell, but around Yugu Malice when the Akasha Arc starts going, it gets really interesting.

Just wish they spent less time on the first islands so they could get there sooner. I didn't really give a shit about the main story until the main arc got going.

an anime bouncing them from fate episodes to the next will make no sense at all since you have to at least have a premise of what's the main goal of the crew and you need time to develop how ever little personality the base crew has first.

also like you say, budget, it's clearly much easier just to follow the main plot instead of having it go all over the place.
