Find a community college or specialist 'school' that can get you a CDL, either finance it or pay out of pocket, then get on board at a company that offers tuition reimbursement.
Stick out your two years in the meat grinder to pay your dues, then decide once you're debt free whether or not you want to stick around.
There are also companies that will train you in exchange for you signing a (typically) 2-year contract, and while these are generally regarded as a total shitfest, it's not the worst thing in the world if that is your only option.
That said, aim for a recognizable company - Swift, Prime, and Schneider all get a lot of flak for being 'puppy mill' companies, but the true shitters are companies like CR England, CRST, and a handful of others that aren't coming to mind.
Nine times out of ten, a smaller, locally-owned-and-operated 'Mom and Pop' company will be your best bet.
I'd laugh so hard if these shit tripfag circlejerk threads were banned

That's the way she goes. Brokers that actually pay detention are my first call. If I'm making $1000 on 14 miles and get a revised ratecon for $2200 the same day, they're on my first call list.

always be careful with those ratecons, alot of them have smalltext that say no det or layover

The text usually isn't that small. "No detention will be paid on ______" is usually bold anyway.
Yep. Been paying repair bills and telling shit rates to fuck off since 2012.

Your autism is next level. I can't believe what I just read. How did you sit there, for what I can only assume was at least one hour, and write that? More importantly, how did you skim it over after you were done and actually think to yourself, "this is good enough to post"? This is Veeky Forums, we are the cesspool of the internet. This low quality post goes against everything we stand for - funny memes, good posts and intellectual discussion. Hint: all of these lacking in your post. I cannot believe someone would sit there and write something like this.

Well, yesterday we wrapped up training and headed home. Now I'm waiting for my rotation to start on the 17th. I'm tossing around the idea of getting HazMat now since it's +$2/hr.

Unloading isn't too difficult.
If frac sand, drive to site, check in with the sand coordinator, find out which bin/bins on sand chief/sand silo you need to offload into, get guided back to the load spoit, hook up discharge hoses, hook up either hydraulic lines to the trailer mounted compressor or air line from the truck mounted compressor, set your valves to air up the compartments, and engage the pto to start the compressor. Air up to 15+ psi, then open up to start offloading.
Cement is either offloading into a silo on a drilling rig site, in which case you would check in with the company man and then blow into the correct bin, or offloading into a cement pumper on the fly, in which case you'll get instruction from the cement supervisor/pumper operator.
Either way I'm sure you'll get some mentoring on site on how to correctly set your valves and operate the blower to maximize the speed at which the sand/cement flows.
As for the work week, a lot of it depends on how far the sand loading facility is from the frac site, and how quickly they are pumping it downhole. I have hauled to sites where we do four loads a day because they are burning through it so fast, and others where it is one or two, and a lot of driving/standby.
Cementing on the fly is usually a lot more on site time waiting to start the job.
Levi Rivera

Thanks, very informative. But I'll be doing solely frac sand and at various sites, the unloading doesn't sound too complicated either so I'm a little more confident about that. We will be with a mentor, I'm just anxious to see how this job is going to pan out. Seems promising enough.

How do you guys on your own plan loads?
Got my own authority back in March. I'm pulling a flatbed and use DAT load board. I'm not losing money but I feel I could be more efficient in booking pre plans. I end up sitting a day or two after each load to find another. Every time I try to book a 2nd load in advanced, I have terrible luck and always end up late to my 2nd appointment due to traffic, receivers wanting to take forever to unload, etc.
How far apart do you book your 2nd load in advance of your expected drop off time on load 1?
Nicholas Foster
Yeah, sand hauling is a good gig. If the gompany I was working for hadn't run out of work for almost two months, I might still be there.
It takes a bit of practice to learn the signs of whether you are offloading properly and to minimize plug ups when the bins are close to being full, but once you get the hang of it, it's easy.
>Stop pissing, Yuri. Give me a stopwatch and a map, and I'll fly the Alps in a plane with no windows.

Yeah, $18/hr. with an average of 80-100 hours a week. I wish we got the Omega sites like the ones in San Antonio, they use grain haulers and dump into a conveyor which dumps into a silo. The drivers don't even need to get out of the cab since they have dedicated off loaders.

After hitting overtime it becomes $27/hr but we also get mileage and load bonuses so it adds up. I will be making a decent chunk of change where I live, enough to buy this house and my dream car. HazMat is on the agenda and jumps me up to $20/hr.
