Old Thread:

First for Rise of the Samurai best total war

History and fantasy living in harmony or else you're in trouble.

SHAMEFUR

>mfw reconquistando Lustria and the Southlands

Total War: World War 1: CHINA

God damnit FUCK I hate chaos marauders jesus christ.

Just need to constantly micro my archers to fire on ones that aren't retreating because they come back 3 or 4 fucking times a battle. Then I've got chariots plowing through three lines of infantry into my archers anyways as I scour my mash of unit cards trying to decide if my 4 units of knights of the realm really did fucking disintegrate before I even knew what happened.

They need to have like half the fucking ammo, or at least only be able to come back twice, because my booty is fucking BLASTED

so I'm playing as WRE and I'm wondering if leaving britannia to it's fate and sending the army their some where else like Spain worth it or should I hold on to britannia? is it the secret god province?

>abandoning a single inch of roman soil

>relying on nights of the realm
>having more than 3 units of squires or battle pilgrims
>not replacing most of your infantry with knights and yeomen archers

You're a horsefucker faction, stop playing like you're rome.

can't I just take them back once I get on my feet?

>ABANDONING A SINGLE INCH OF ROMAN SOIL

That's a good idea

It's even better if you let them capture the settlement by only defending it by your garrison inflicting the most casualties possible, and then retaking it next turn to loot it and get shit load of money that way

I'm afraid I must ask you to leave this general until you have wiped out your shame. I can't even look at you right now.

You pull in essentially fucking nothing in income from it at the start of the game, and it isn't worth the army upkeep you'll need to secure it, especially when those soldiers are better used defending provinces that already have some infrastructure, or using the gold to improve provinces you're not so likely to lose.

Not abandoning britannia is just something you do for fun and bragging rights.

>13x germanic crossbows
>13x germanic spearmasters

the gayest army I have ever fought in attila
>hammer the spears with your cav and save your frontline but get annhilated by radious-tier crossbow units
>chase down all 13 fucking crossbows with your cav and your frontline gets annihilated by the spears

god I fucking despise germans

Not abandoning brittania is something you do to keep the stonhenge bonus and prevent incusions into gaul/belgica from the north - once you wipe out the celts one army can defend the isles, and if you let the barbar fucking shits have it you allow them to come down from the north via the land bridge and to anywhere they want on the coast via the sea - if you keep it however, you can hold belgica with one army at colonia agrippina

So I've been gone from this general for a while... are warhammer 1 and 2 not connected?

they will be after a period of time after launch - CA has said "weeks, not months" wait time until they release the free "mega-campaign" that will feature both the old and new world, but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets delayed

What is the worst decision Total War has made?

My vote is the whole region idea. Placing an army in a settlement makes the one hundreds of kilometres away happier, raiding that settlement will then make the other miserable, spreading religion to a town will make another faction entirely's disorder due to religion skyrocket, etc...

So I should focus down the the Celts then and keep the province. Alright.

>weeks not months

I don't believe them

But that's true

8 weeks is still weeks :^)

Deciding to get into fantasy.

agents

>s2 agents can flip settlements, stall armies for years, and make turn times nightmarishly slow since they always go at the slow speed and you always have to watch their animations
>r2 agents can prevent reinforcements, debilitate entire armies and halt movement for years just like in shogun 2, as well as making turn times nightmarishly slow since they always go at the slow speed and you always have to watch their animations
>attila agents are a bit better than before, but will still ruthlessly pursue you especially if you play as a horde faction, I had one campaign where my Attila died after 3 turns thanks to agent spam from factions across the map. They also make turn times nightmarishly slow since they always go at the slow speed and you always have to watch their animations
>WH agents were absurd on launch, especially since CA didn't mention the exhaustion mechanic and certain factions didn't have assassin agents to deal with enemy faction agents. Better in this game since they can be used in armies however

Idk what they were like in other games, but they are fucking obnoxious with their targeted abilities in those games. I would have preferred it if they just had province/army passives, and could only actively target enemy agents

Thats my advice - if you build out garrison buildings in the proper settlements that barbars are drawn to (camulodunum, colonia agrippina) you can eventually just have one or two small armies holding off most of the nordic/viking factions, since in my experience that is where they like to send their armies

Making France and Spain one region

When's Norsca?

*Fall of the Samurai

>he's never played the classics

so this is the face of nu-/twg/

Just reinstalled Warhammer, give me one (1) reason not to play as Bretonnia

FRANZ

Only their cavalry is worth a damn and you need to micro like crazy

But that's also a reason to play them

Is this overkill?

no cost is too high when killing horsefuckers

>got into series with r2 emperor edition
>bought attila on release
>bought wh on release
>bought shogun 2/fots on sale bc I heard they were fun
>have heard that empire/napoopan are doodoo
>m2 ui looks atrocious from what screenshots I have seen, plus it seems like it has plenty of bugs that would enrage me, but I might pick it up just for the mods
>rome same as above, except I see no reason to buy it when rome2 exists
>shogun/medieval way too old

there is literally nothing wrong with napoopan

I thought it was the source of the 1 province france meme - or was that empire?

Alright thanks for the advice. also in case anyone wanted to know I got the idea of sending the army in britannia to spain from a guide I saw on opening moves for WRE.
I know I probably should've just done it on my own but since it's my first time playing WRE and Attila proper for that matter I thought a guide might help.

thanks again user.

Empire.

Empire hurts because it's obvious how much potential it had.
Napoleon is a good, solid game however I prefer the setting of Empire.

>he started with rome 2

>first attila campaign
>wre

you are in for a wild ride

EE though, so he probably never experienced the horrors that those who bought it on launch did

Limiting your number of "armies" and not being allowed to station detachments as a garrison or have promotions to "generalship" or "nobility" as it were, or as forward scouts, or anything... I've spent hundreds of hours on Rome 2 and I'm fucking done. I wanted to love it so badly because I like a lot of things about it... But overall it's just shit. It fucking sucks. What the fuck were they thinking with so many decisions about this game... Holy shit...

When does the civil war trigger in legendary FotS, how many provinces?

Still a shit game.

Also if you lose a province and take it back does that count as two or is it total number

I googled but i can't get a firm number.

OH and to continue, what I hate not most but an easy number 2: Compensating for a fucking garbage campaign map by simply keeping it zoomed in low, to try and "trick" me into thinking that it's not fucking tiny. I'm so goddamn sick of playing musical chairs with cities and ending up in siege after siege. God fucking damnit... Sorry but I haven't ranted about this on the internet yet. There, I'm done. Damn it. I'm sorry /twg/ I know you've probably heard it a million times and now it's out of my system and I'll leave you alone. FUCK.

In a "Civil War" with negatives to integrity and public order, but the people I'm supposed to be fighting a civil war with have buggered off across Europe.

They were probably thinking of this, fucking moron.

Anyone have the image of the people cutting elf ears off?

>late game attila as wre
>winter covers most of the map with snow
>stays in spring
>majority of the map impassible for half of the year
>no traits, traditions, or technologies that help with this

slows the campaign to a crawl

Is that preorder bonus race pack thing still going for TWWH2? I don't know if its still the "first week" or not.

It gets posted here a lot.

>not a problem in Rome
>not a problem in Medieval 2
>problem in Empire
>not a problem in Napoleon
>not a problem in Shogun 2

"the first week" thing refers to the first week after release of the game.

t. nostalgiafag

*THIS* is what I call a win condition

and it only took me 450 turns

shieet forgot pic

Whoa...

>northern border princes still in ruins

shame on you user

>start VH Fujiwara campaign
>sister clan betrays me as per usual so I kick their shit in with rank 4 warrior monks I crippled my economy by rushing for
>take both their provinces by turn 20 but have a shit economy
>get settled in for some comfy economic growth & start building farms and food stores
>realise it's a short campaign and I have 68 turns to make it to Kyoto
well fuck

>Kraka Drak lost

You call that a victory, milkdrinker?

Hope you had fun clearing out the Norsca. Took me at least 50 turns and I lost about 90% of my armies, there's so many little fucking settlements hidden around in the north and if you don't find and raze every last one they regain half of their old territory within 5 turns.

Well that solved it self.

Based fellow Langobard player

Langobards are a great faction

>great berserker inf
>great anvil inf
>great germanic spears
>great 200 range germanic archers
>great noble germanic cav
>horse hewers if you want to win the cav engagement sooner

When it comes to horsefuckers there is no overkill, only remove.

I had a campaign like this too... But I couldn't get the "have all trade resources" achievement because the dumbass dwarfs refused to build a beer building.

R8 my army comp lads, thinking about swapping out 1 of the xbows for another large onager, since I can't ever seem to get more than 100 kills with my xbows but my large onagers obviously usually get over 200.

>new dlc for Rome 2

What? I'm sorry but what? Holy shit what? This is a joke or are they finally going add in politics or what? Port mechanics from Attila?

Needs more CATAFRACTARII

Boy you ain't seen shit. Come back to me when you constantly have to shift your daimyo to different sea ports because there's an army of max level geishas honing into him no matter where because the AI cheats and fog of war doesn't exist. And you sent all your own ninjas and geisha to stop them but nothing could because there's so many of them and they're all fucking max and they're leaving a trail of dead bodies in their wake and all you can do is hope you can finish grinding the enemies last 5 provinces down before they catch up to him and your entire campaign is fucking done because they already assassinated everyone else.

sounds like real life

Currently installing Warhammer now that it's piratable, having not played any TW games since Medieval 2. Pick my starting race.

Franks

Can't spell cOPy pasta without OP.

unfortunately they are replaced by
>light shock cavalry

the scholae gentiles

...

go azhag the slaughterer for orks user, the things he do are amazing

depends

If you want a mostly classic feeling to get you back into the Total War style of things that still has some of the fantasy elements of Warhammer go Empire

If you want a straight-up unique fantasy experience then go Vampires

Orcs are essentially just hordes from Attila with some slightly different mechanics, if you don't give a shit about campaign management but like battles do them.

Dwarfs are just Empire but magic is replaced with steampunk shit.

Can't say I expected to meet the Visigoths by the banks of the Nile.

>Large onagers
I forgot those things even existed. Didn't even see the Huns using the damn things. I wish ERE could into armored skirmishers.

Any tip for playing the Beastmen, especially early on?
I love them but I always end up avoiding too much battles early on.
Their low and mid tier units (ungors, gors, and centigors) feel like trash compared to other races equivalent troops, especially if they're fielding archers and armor.

>tagmata
>armored shock cav
>armored saggitarii
>armored legio

Wish I had some of that goodness right now, it triggers my autism to spam units like Herculiani and Scholae Palatinae in all of my armies, but I will probably have to do it when I get the money for it

I just reinstalled Rome 2. Convince me I didn't make a mistake.

Really makes you smile

Literally no harm can come from installing a game. Worst case scenario you occupy a few hour's time.

Campaign wise I tend to roll with both Hordes, keeping one as my real army, the other as just the one lord and overflow if main army gets too full. I hide with the main army, and raid with the other army to draw in enemy armies which I can take on. With this I can pull out garrisons and open up juicy settlements.
Personally I don't bother with Gors, I stick with Ungors as low tier chaff and get my Minotaurs early. Also like to field a good amount of poison dogs, great for anti archer, artillery, and routing unit abuse.

ALBERIC D'BORDELEAUX

AHHHH, MEDIOLANUM

...

I FUCKING PASSED DAMN

HOLY JESUS CHRIST

I LOVE YOU /TWG/ I ALWAYS TRUSTED IN YOUR BLESSINGS

So heroic or phyric victory?

Nice. My exam is tomorrow on Roman history so I hope I do okay.

congrats m8

Good job lad.

Can someone explain to me how the WRE army works in Attila.

I don't know dick about the time period other then Rome falls and Attilas a cunt.

For the ancient world I know all about hastati principes and triarii and the later legions. But there's so many fucking units on the WRE roster I don't know what to do. Nothing looks Roman and I don't know what to make my army of. Also why does it seem like the early Roman soldiers suck so fucking bad? Their attack is so low compared to their barb counterparts. I'm overwhelmed by the options and my inexperience with the soldiers of the time.
