To answer your question you either have to eat the trap or burn a knife, its pretty no fun, but if people aren't afraid of comms you can protect each other doing it or you can call out when he morphs and get objectives when its burned.

The game itself when I tested it on my two computers in a private match. It doesn't matter if you're Vanessa or AJ, moving without crouching will produce a white circle for Jason to see at all times no matter where he is on the map or how early in the game without him needing to sense.

Thank you, user, I've done some more testing thanks to this vid, and what I found is some supreme bullshit.
I could reproduce the video just fine, with Jason 6 not able to hear a jogging AJ from close or from afar, so I decided to test other counselors and suddenly found that Jason was able to hear them jogging no matter where he was on the map. After some more testing I figured something out.
All Jasons have a hidden "hearing" stat that is independent of his Sense ability. Jason 6 and 3 have really shitty sound perception and trying to reproduce that video using them will wield the same results as seen in the video. However Part 7 Jason has amazing hearing abilities, and trying to reproduce that video with him will lead to him constantly hearing AJ if she jogs. This is a completely hidden stat that is independent of Sense because both Jason 6 and 7 has a Sense bonus, yet one hears everything while the other is practically deaf.
Its actually pretty fucking bullshit that this isn't explained anywhere, and the reason why I was confused before is because I always use Jason 7 for testing purposes because he looks the best.
These devs have no idea what the fuck they're doing either. Half the weaknesses and strengths seem picked out of a hat, Male counselors are decidedly worse in every way to female counselors for the same roles.
