So what's a Good One handed sword class starting from Gladiator? I remember Paladin is more sword and board class and I wanted something a little different than that

Can Roes look good at SAM? No, Gosetsu isnt a Roe.

MSQ, sidequests, FATEs, PotD, PvP, Roulettes, and dungeon spam are you options, any works.

Eye for an Eye is kinda weak and only really good for huge fucking pulls which are just not that common or really noticeable, and for bosses its duration is just too small to make an impact

Also, you can use Protect and switch it out instantly with any ability that is not on Cooldown (say Cleric Stance is on cooldown, you can switch for Esuna, cast protect, and switch right back to Esuna). On my SCH I have

Protect - change for Cleric Stance after instance start
Esuna
Lucid Dreaming - mind you that MP regen from Aetherflow has been nerfed
Largesse for emergency healing, also boosts shields and will blow up HP with Lustrate and Indomitability
Swiftcast - rezzing and shit

Also note, Role abilities are not level locked after you unlock them, so your level 48 ability can be used in Copperbell mines and shit.

Thats not how this game works friend. Each class turns into a specific job. There is no branching job for Gladiator. You either go sword and board Paladin, or the new Red Mage uses a sword but its 80% ranged magic and 20% sword.

having a bad tank makes dungeon runs 99999x slower. The best way to ensure they go faster is to do the job yourself.

Tanking is by far the easiest role. You are basically a DPS except you have to look at your team and see how awful they are.

Paladin/Gladiator is also really boring until Level 54.

If you want to get whatever they unlock, yes. The only ones I'd suggest skipping is the leves of______ quests, as you generally won't be bothering with levequests your first class up, maybe not ever.
