first off why are they called widow mines

clearly these mines used to be married to someone but they died and now the mines are widowed, that much is obvious

but what isnt obvious is who it was who was married to the now widowed widow mines

This may be an ironic post but there were mines used in the American Civil War that were nicknamed widow mines cause they would kill men and leave their wives as widows
