Story chalices are just so badly done. It almost discourages you from starting new characters because of how badly you need to grind to get good blood gems to make builds.

Im level 45, should I run some root chalices layer 2 for lowlevel gems or should I just jump right into layer 3? My weapon is +7 so it deals some damage atleast.

There's one student in the Lecture hall that stays sitting when you do an echoes run through there and I always put "no mercy for dullards" right under him that gets a lot of fines

Because they're far more fun to use than the Cleaver. Rakuyo is literally just BoM but slower and clunkier, and more importantly has a FAR less satisfying trick/untrick sound effect

While they both fill the niche of "fast, duel-wielded skill weapon," they do go about it in different ways. BoM is much better at single strikes but weaker when it comes to R1 spam due to the lower damage and range. Rakuyo is a more well-rounded weapon for PvE, in my opinion. I use both pretty extensively, because I find both quite fun and they have their own strengths and weaknesses

I like both as well but I have trouble building beasthood as fast with the Rakuyo.

The gimmick with bom is the dodge attacks are more powerful than the standing ones

Yeah, Beasthood generation is not one of Rakuyo's strengths. I personally have a Saw Spear that I use when I want to build a lot of beasthood very quickly. BoM is better at it than the Rakuyo, but nothing beats the Saw in beasthood production (on skill builds at least).

To be fair I enjoy the untricked Rakuyo more than BoM, and I do like the gimmick of easily switching between thrusts and swipes. The moveset as a whole just doesn't feel as fluid to me. BoM feel like how a skill build should feel imo. Both are cool though

as a single attack yeah, but the later stages of thr BoM r1 combo absolutely shits out damage

This is quite true. However getting to the later stages of the R1 combo isn't as easy as 2-3 swings with a Rakuyo. It requires an enemy that won't go down in just a few swings and doesn't hit or move away from you long enough to have the 4th+ swings. I believe the 4th swing has a 1.20 multiplier, the same as the running/dashing R1s

I think it's just PTSD from the first one I encountered catching me off guard. They move incredibly fast for their size and are way more aggressive compared to other watchers

But being gud and doing things solo is comfy too
