It kinda depends on the version, but I think they've chosen to go with the idea that Romulus killed Remus.

The other take on it is that Remus was killed by one of Romulus' followers. Ovid tells of it in a poem -- Fasti -- about the twins. Remus was hit in the head with a shovel and died on the spot.
