It's a reasonable approach for a Japanese company that thinks of its customers' needs in keeping their cars clean. The advent of air bags inside of seat bolsters complicates the issue. I can see why lots of USA cars prefer to have non-replaceable self-destructing seat covers to prevent the case where some itinerant customer affects the deployment of the air bags.

Levi's can go for $400 to $700 each in Japan especially if it is one of the older ones with the older style rugged fabric. Today's newer Levi's jeans have a thinner less rugged fabric.
