Given this is a known trend nowadays, I think that it'd be kind of funny to get a completely molested "tuner" type car, like a riced civic or something, and make it stupid fast, that way the typical street racer will think "oh it's some faggot with a cold air intake trying to flex" and they won't expect it to fuck them up. Am I stupid or would this be a good idea?
I know somebody that bought a riced out CRX, with an engine swap and putting out an estimated 300 whp, but he sold it before ever getting it dynod.
I've thought about going sort of the opposite route myself though. Buying an 8th gen civic si or something, installing a turbo and a few simple mods, and removing all the SI badges and whatnot.

I think a modern sleeper would have to get a bit more psychological than traditionally expected.
We already assume a sleeper is going to look as stock as possible.
So instead, I think what you want to do is make it LOOK like a Walmart ricer special. Make it appear like it's had absolute crap glued onto it that only 15 year olds would think is cool, found at local Walmart stores etc... but then the driveline is actually done professionally.
That would confuse the fuck out of other drivers. Extra points if you can inject small quantities of oil into the exhaust to make it look like you've got serious cylinder/valve issues.

Sleepers need to evolve. A boring looking car that happens to be fast in a straight line is somewhat-surprising, but it's a concept most people are familiar with.
I want to see more well-rounded sleepers that actually have decent track performance and good handling.

Plenty of diesel trucks will take the average sports car off the line. You can't really make a "tuner car" into a sleeper.
But rice and speed are not mutually exclusive. There are already plenty of fast modded cars that have been poorly riced out.
