2007 Prius

Just replaced 3 cells in my prius hybrid battery, now it won't start, if I jump the car it will stay started but only as long as the jumper cables are connected, charged the 12v in the back and it reads 12v, is there anything possibly i could have missed? any advice?

you missed the part where these weren't made user servicable.
try resetting the computers and stuff, maybe it helps

Dead alternator?

every pair of battery modules needs more or less the same voltage otherwise the system wont allow the car to start.

you also need to check the connections and clean it.

did this job on my 1st gen Prius... works fine.

OP here, how do you manage them? i dont want to just hook up a jump starter to prius battery cells

>you missed the part where these weren't made user servicable.
this desu famu

well i dont have 4 grand to give to a certified toyota dealer so gotta do this myself

buy a rc charger and charge voltage to about 8 - 8,2V each module. sould be fine to go then.

if you experience any voltage drop after charging you have to replace more modules.

if you can get start the car started via jumper then switch gear to P and keep pushing the acceleration pedal till combustion engine is loading the hybrid system via generator. keep it loading a few minutes and the hybrid battery should be balanced.

can we talk on discord?

op here
anyone that can talk with me for a little bit add me on discord doomsure#5537

don't you have the toyota techstream software & mini vci cable for all the cell data, functions, etc.?

its like $15 off ebay

Why is cell 27 so discolored? I'd say it is the shit cell.

this isnt my battery, just a pic off google to get the idea

can you do that with a prius? I've tried to rev the engine b4 and it didn't work

Not op and don't have hybrid but is there any other cool stuff you can do with that

any help would be awesome, i also stripped 2 of the battery cell points where the nuts go along the edge like where i circled on here, do those need to be on for there to be continuity between the cells?

all sorts of stuff you're supposed to go to the dealer for your toyota/lexus

jesus you really didn't think this through did you?

i got the car from a buddy clean title 140k miles for 500 dollars was sitting in his driveway

Yes. If that is not tight you are going to create a lot of heat there. Do not drive this car.

you couldn't be bothered to pirate the service manual?

Damn that's great, mine has 280k on the original battery. Never had to fuck with it.

advice for getting the nuts on? only the top portion of the bolt is stripped and i did pirate it, and watched a shit ton of videos, how do you think i got to the battery in the first place?

>advice
It's pretty straightforward, you put the nut on the bolt. How did you strip it, with an impact? The torque spec on those is tiny, maybe 5nm. If they are stripped they are fucked, replace the modules you stripped the studs off.

fuck, it was an impact. some of them required it to get them off so assumed use it to get em on, some were corroded to the little piece of metal that connects each cell, no crazy tricks to get around that?

Dude why would you ever use an impact gun on those. Never ever do that. Just get a longer ratchet ffs.

you're the kind of guy that uses an impact on the oil drain plug arent you

no, i was required to use the impact to get the entire battery out....

>uses an impact on a fucking bolt this small

Jesus fucking christ, WHY?! What on fucking god's green earth was your logic?!

An impact isn't required for anything, especially an HV battery. If you shot all those nuts on with an impact I'd worry about the integrity of any one you touched, not just the stripped ones. If the bars aren't properly tightened on there will be resistance, acting as a consumer, which is EXTREMELY bad, can burn the car down. I don't know what to tell you, you are in a bad spot. I would take the service plug out and find someone locally that actually knows what they are doing (there are lots of backyard Prius rebuilders) that can straighten it out.

>required to use the impact
you don't need an impact to remove any electronic assembly on a prius... or any car for that matter

do you not know how to use hand tools?

>he fell for the electric meme.

For the actual battery pack I had too, I tried a break bar and the bolts would not budge

Does Tesla allow users to replace their battery?

>all this headache
>for a shit car
Wew lad problems i'll never have

Terrible idea OP, you can kill yourself working on a hybrid system if you don't know what you're doing which clearly you don't

Only if they use impact guns!

People have done it, but it voids the warranty for obvious reasons (just like on the Prius and every other car)

Funny you mention, to remove the battery on a Tesla impacts are fine, and unlike the Prius there are no bolted connections from module to module. You really can't crack open a Tesla pack and replace a module though, everything is soldered and potted and it has to be EXTREMELY clean because of how small the vanes are for cooling. The only accessible part of the pack to service is where the contacters and BMS are.

You can neutral drop a Prius if you're so inclined. I don't know about newer ones but the 2011 model would rev the engine in park.

I don't wanna sound like a dick especially cuz I'm planning on getting one of these older ones myself some day but why not try a dedicated Prius forum?

>got it for 500 dollars
Part it out from his driveway.

You can solder these tabs together.

No and an intrusion detection voids warranty.

I believe it's spelled "sodler"

You're one ballsy motherfucker. I wouldn't have the guts to work on a hybrid powertrain.

So it only runs while another 12v vehicle is connected to it to jumo it? First they don't run at idle, the engine only runs at to do an idle check and when you are accelerating or using the heater. Second it sounds like a bad 12v battery or a failed dc dc convertor. Check the 12v battery voltage with the car "on" and see if it's charging.

this.
don't electrocute yourself dooder

something there might help, I'm not sure it is for your generation prius.

Well then don't own a prius
