DCS Modding is pretty much non-existant
Only now some mods are coming out that might change that somewhat, like the A4 from >reddit
Nevertheless, texture mods will not trigger the integrity check so you can install those

I'm pretty new to flight simulators. What is currently the best one for civil aircraft?

Up to a certain point, the worse the AI drives in simulators.. the more realistic the experience.

Prepar3D v4. Xplane is pretty well done too AFAIK I still play FSX

I am new to sim games, do I NEED track ir to play warthunder, dcs etc? I've always thought so, but I kindave want to get used to the controls while waiting for money to buy the thing.

In DCS and IL-2 most of the time it will help you alot like when you need to look around quick or get into a dogfight, for War thunder just use the mouse.

You can use a basic smartphone for rotation, pitch and roll, as long as it has a gyroscope. Makes a world of difference.

What's the best approach for those tomahawk the harbor missions?

I sunk defending patrol ships, then an aircraft kept on flagging my position non-stop until some heli dumped enough torps at me to sink me.

Am I supposed to sneak into the firing position, fire away and then sneak out? It feels like enemy aircraft will be on my ass even before I fire the last tomahawk.

Carry a good number of MOSS'. Stay as far away from the target area as you can (helis start patroling around the coast line in the south). Come up shallow, punch a bunch of tomahawks, launch a MOSS, dive and go flank and start a turn. When at depth, turn hard out of there (in the opposite direction to your MOSS) and then go silent, you'll be using that speed you built up to carry you away quickly. They should be going after the MOSS. If they find you again, go flank to get away from the sonobouys, punch a MOSS, turn 90 degrees and go silent. The real problem is actually the plane and its MAD, the helicopters are relatively easy to dupe.
