I think cars can be both depending on the car as well as the driver.

Cars are always female, what do you think the process of filling up with fuel is?

Well that's where I ended up stumped.

It depends on language really. In gender neutral (lol) languages like english you can't trully know what your car is, but in languages like spanish, russian, italian, romanian etc you can get the gender based on termination.

Trabant, Twingo, Matiz, Volkswagen would be masculine in romanian for instance.
Mazda, Toyota etc may be feminine.
It also depends on whether you use the model or marque name. Opel for instance is masculine, where as if you would take for instance Corsa it would be feminine. So it is up to you if you reffer to your car as the "Opel" or the "Corsa".
