It's essentially calcualted by a few factors. It's modified by your renown, whether the other lords support you, your relationship with the king and whether you're the one who took the castle or town.

Do quests and shit for other lords to up your relationship with them.

Especially in PoP, since you should generally avoid hanging around the south part of the map on low levels because of heretics and snake cultists so chance of fighting them while they're still a challenge is pretty small.
