Don't alt+f4 out of the game, penalties are bugged in a way that if you close the game from practice mode (or anywhere I suppose) you will get penalized as if you had left an online match. I already messaged bandainamco on their support site, who knows if they'll ever fix it.
I closed the game this way twice (was practicing before going out and alt+f4 out of practice mode to quit the game quickly) and now I got the message saying that I got penalized.

Yeah you can definitely do it quicker, preferably so that the crouch is almost unnoticeable. If a good player sees you crouch at that range it will be blindly obvious to them what you're going for.

Your crouch movement, the little stutterstep. If your opponent sees that, he's gonna expect either a WS2, a slide or a WS1. So your slides have to be instant without the stutterstepping to be effective.
I like to crouch and just shuffle a bit to scare my opponent, it's a good tactic if you want some breathing space.
