I've been looking at hardtops but they're pretty pricey relative to the value of the car. I have been having fun with it might take it to autox in the near future.

Do you like sports cars with Corolla reliability?
Do you like snap oversteer?
If yes, you did good.

besides from the yaris headlights, this car is pretty much 3rd on my tier list.

k20/k24 swaps in but is cramped
2G fits, can do 240-260 n/a but oil pan sits dangerously low
Volvo T5 swap and 13b swap have also been done

Don't even feel like I need an engine upgrade. It's goat.
Be wary of spyderchat having shit quality and follow spyder builders on instagram. They are usually super helpful if you have specific questions.

If you don't have precats removed, remove them.
If you don't have the rear diffuser, get one like a beatrush or find someone that makes one.
If you want car to be faster lose weight, especially in wheels and get coilovers.
Ignore fags who say "lmao 2zz swap" cause they are usually running full gold steering wheels, leopard skin seat covers, aftermarket back seats, 25" bling wheels that weigh 50kg each etc. Focus on the car strenghts and the engine will be good.

They will do more than just make the car go faster in a straight line, which it can do fine without unless you live in an american desert. In which case honda turbo swap for 900 hp

I bought an MR2 spyder and I loved it and then the engine blew up 2 weeks ago on the way back from work and it caught fire the fuel tank exploded destroying the car and I've been depressed since.

Not OP and I'm bumping a thread that's lived its life, but I have a Q about this car: When you swap 2zz to replace 1zz, is it possible to love happily every day with it? No check engine lights, no mismatched parts. It just swaps in and the ECU is happy?

In real life it really grows on you.

You need to pull the ECU from the car you get the 2zz from. Otherwise the 2zz is still prone to oil burning like the 1zz, and if you track it you need a baffled oil pan because the 2zz has oil starvation issues as well.

You also won't break 200whp without Lotus/Yamaha parts which are very expensive, it's cheaper to turbo a 1zz which can handle 250hp on the stock block.

Yes the 2zz will drop in but you need to swap your wiring harness out for a 2zz one. It's also much more worthwhile to turbo a 1zz because even the 2zz has limits without a turbo

The 1zz burns oil due to a badly designed piston causing oil to gum up in the oil rings, causing them to fail. Redesigned pistons exist, and once you replace the Pistons and rings, it won't burn a drop of oil.

The 2zz has VVTI lift bolts that tend to snap so you have to take off your cam cover and replace said bolts, it's pretty easy.

Honestly, the 1ZZ is a turd, not even worth turboing to get the same amount of power as a 2ZZ. You'll get about 180 with a redline of 8200RPM, 190 with a less restrictive exhaust.

My 1zz is post facelift, had around 85k km on it with precats intact and it doesn't burn almost any oil meanwhile sw20's can empty the oil in a track day.

get rid of the pre-cats and keep an eye on the oil level.

Don't worry about the engine for now. Get some Koni Yellows and some stiff springs. Looks way better if you lower it a bit.

While I don't have a MR2, I do have a Celica with a 1zz and I never noticed it burning oil. Did they fix it on the later 1zz engines?
