/scg/edg/ Star Elite: Dangerous Citizen General #175 RIP Chris Roberts Edition

Edition: RIP Chris Roberts

Be aware, Thargs are currently grabbing ships out of witchspace and giving out complementary rectal probings, it is advised you shoot the fuck out of them whenever possible, or just go with it if that's your thing, I ain't tellin you how to live. Apparently the Ayylmaos are rumbling again, inquire within if this means goddamned thing or if its just Braben trying to scare up some more money.

Above is a pastebin of games you can play while waiting for SC and E:D to become playable.

last thread >181040917

Can confirm, Chris Roberts died today. Good night, sweet prince

rip thread

I was wondering when someone was going to make a new thread.

f

Maybe now that chris is gone we can have form fitting bodysuits.

Did derek had him killed?
Who is in charge now? Erin? Lawyerman? Tony? Brian? Sandi?

This thread is becoming like the late /kspg/.

Just picked this up. Loving it. Loving everything about it.

>go to CG
>get interdicted
>fight it for 5 minutes
>YOURE SUPPOSED TO SUBMIT
>PEW PEW PEW
>shots bounce off augmented shields
>boost away at 500m/s
>FUCKING COWARD REEEEEEEEEEEE
Such is life as a Dolphin pilot.

>tfw no mobiglas API so you can write an IRC client

Isn't SC already inherently rated R, with all the swearing and drug smuggling and drinking and slavery?

I can get that they don't want outright pornography, but I don't see a reason to shy away from a little sexiness.

What's even the point of reviving this thread until 3.0?
Buyback token when?

Someone post the screencap of the guy on RSI suggesting that rape be included in the game

>wake up
>Chris Roberts is dead
>/scg/ is alive
I don't know how to feel about this.

Haven't dropped by this general in a while, is CR being dead the new hip meme?

I can't believe Chris is dead. :(

No it's true

Sounds pretty sick.

So what's the current money grind in elite?

You think SC will finally be worth the money after 3.0 comes out?

It's nothing like the late kspg, before it was murdered

Rip in peace Chris Robert 1946 - 2017 creator of 3000AD

The funniest insult would be when Squadron 42 is out Chris sends Derek a tweet saying "We finished our game want us to finish yours?"

Passenger missions. Have a good merchant/explorer ranking, get in good graces (allied status) with a system. Buy a cheap Saud Kruger ship with some 1st class and VIP cabins. Rake in the dough with .75-2 million credit single or double hops, assuming a decent FSD range.

>Buy ED having never played it.
>do training missions.
>Didn't realize what I was in for.
>Getting pissed trying to land.
>Furious over advanced combat training.
>Finally get it figured out.
>Go into main game.
>Out of first hub 2 seconds people shooting at me.
>Jump away to any random system.
>Message: "Fucking coward fight."
Is this what I should expect going forward?

Will a dolphin work or is an orca cheap enough to get away with? I think I have 50 mil, haven't played in a few months

cant wait to test it in beta +5 years from now

God I hope the injury system in SC deters retards like that.

Damn son. The landing got me when I was trying to bring it down on a station and had the ship facing the wrong way. Other wise I've seen next to no one. Been scanned a few times but that's it.

There's no such thing as cowardice in a stock Sidewinder.

>micromanage your center of mass

They cant be serious. Speaking of overambitious...

Orca + proper fitting is going to be out of reach for 50mil. With that starting capital you're looking at Dolphin, AspX or a freighter.

SK luxury cabins aren't an absolute necessity. Those passengers are rare and the payout over first class isn't that impressive.

There's nothing ambitious about that. It would be extremely simple from a programming perspective. Finding a center of mass is literally just taking averages.

>FDS malfunctions
>Life support offline.
>Can't drop out of super cruise.
>Game wont let me reboot repair.

I'm continuing to get more upset with this game.

>FSD malfunction
>still in supercruise

wut

...

As funny as that is, relogging should drop you back down to normal space.

>Captain's Log
>day 1
>destination star failed to pull out out of hyperspace and the hyperdrive won't shut down
>engineering crew working on a fix before we get too far off course
>day 2
>still stuck hurtling through hypersapce
>unable to drop back to normal space
>engineering crew baffled
>day 3
>now officially at the edge of the milky way
>running out of stars to pull us out
>crew has broken into panic
>day 34
>passed NGC 6822 two hours ago, still heading in the general direction of Andromeda
>I bet the fucking Thargoids did this

anyone have the female models?
with the 4K genital textures

Wait, you met PEOPLE in E:D?

Yeah. And more resources being used (slower algorithms) when shit flies all over the place inside the ship, or when a fucking wing comes off, or when one wing has more missiles than the other.. etc etc.

>armchair "programmer" who's probably never written a line of code in his life confuses logarithms and algorithms and thinks he knows what he's talking about

>determine weight on a three dimensional grid (most likely) in order to determine the center of mass on every loop cycle
>and now the code is slower

Get fucked asshole.

That's an absolutely trivial calculation if you keep a list of all cargo inside the ship.

It doesnt make sense to do such calculation when you can just simplify things and just keep track of the total mass of the ship, regardless of the cargo disposition.

Wtf is there to gain? So the ship yaws slightly to a certain side during atmospheric flight or rolls faster/slower depending on conditions? Too much complexity for little reward if you ask me. Not to mention that the game is already heavy as fuck in terms of graphic detail.

>every loop cycle
Mark and other CIG programmers have talked extensively about making sure processes like this (although not exactly this) are only called when something changes.

Yes the game is heavy but it is dynamic systems like like this that are going to end up creating really cool and memorable moments when they interact with other components of the game.
There is no part of this game that will not need optimization but it seems like the engineering team is well equipped to do it.

Oh well I already have an aspx

If I'm an anti-social retard who wants to play e:d all by myself, is it a viable option or do I have to interact with other people?

...

The only reason to play in open is to PvP or wing up with other people. If you play solo you'll still be interacting with the same universe, but won't have to worry about getting randomly facemelted by some dude in an Anaconda.
