I popped in for a few minutes yesterday when they were doing the Pokemon Puzzle League speedrun. Watching him pull off 12+ chains was pretty cool the first few times but then I got bored as it became apparent that winning matches quickly in that game is reliant on the AI fucking up, otherwise they'd drag each match on for several minutes.

I guess this is why I've been told that Panel de Pon is a horrible game to watch at high levels.

I usually watch the games I love, yeah. But I don't think much of speedrunning or its "community."
I can see the appeal of beating a game as fast as possible, by optimising your routes, resources and just playing well. Once it includes glitches and moving through walls and shit though it just seems like you're hardly playing the game anymore really.

There's also the fact that determining what is a glitch and what is not a glitch is completely arbitrary and entirely subjective. The simple fact stands that if a glitch exists in a game unfixed then it must be intended unless stated otherwise. You can play cat and mouse with these all damn day. For example: wall jumping, rocket jumping, and enemy juggling (like in devil may cry) were all glitches, but we've come to know of those as features in other games. What if they had been removed? What if there's action canceling in a game, is it intended? You might be using a glitch without even realizing it in most games. When it comes to speedruns (or scoreruns) everything that exists within the game naturally is fair game. The goal is only to beat the game as fast as possible.
