>not that long ago it was easy to run a family with only father working >now you need to have mother and father working 9-5 for family to live on a decent level
You guys told me that capiltalism is best possible system. So why life isn't getting easier?
Next, compare life in the pre-capitalist 1700s to the post-capitalist 1800s.
Then compare life in the communist societies of today (say, Cuba) with the capitalist societies of today (say, Singapore).
That should just about cover everything.
Sebastian Rogers
It could be worse. You could live in Venezuela or North Korea where both parents need to work a 5 to 9 7 days a week for a piece of bread
Also we aren't living in a capitalist society anymore. If you live in Europe your nation has been usurped by socialism and if you live in the US your country has been usurped by half assed socialism and foreign lobbyists
Jack Russell
The problem is you are trying to live like you're in an era that's long gone.
Remain single, avoid having children and life is perfectly affordable.
Jackson Roberts
>it could be worse
You know it isn't really convincing? Also comparing 1st world countries with 3rd world shitholes? Are you retarded? I'm asking why despite all this progress life is more difficult. Also screw you, it's private ownership of means of production, and it isn't socialism. USSR falled long ago
Jose Martin
Because we aren't progressing idiot. There's an epidemic of cronyism and corruption in the first world at the moment. What do you want me to say? It's the fault of capitalism? So your thread was a loaded question, got it. Go back to /pol/
Noah White
who is that girl
Luke Bennett
That dream was only possible under gold standard.
From there, too many ponzi scheemes and too many confiscation/taxation.
Everything is far more developed and yet, you're not richer, give thanks to central banks and governments.
Daniel Nelson
Why don't you just say what you mean instead of being a cryptic faggot.
Henry Murphy
Globalization senpai. Money has no loyalty and no borders. The wealthy fucked the middle class and lower classes by outsourcing and NOT reinvesting the profits.
You can live comfy as fuck with a family just a gross income of 40k.
People, especially poor people, seem to think they need to be leasing rims on their brand new leased cars, and eating out every single night and wearing all name brands, or else their life is not worth living.
The reason both of the parents have to work full time is because they bought two cars they couldn't afford, a house they couldn't afford, took out student loans for an education they don't use, and then pay out the ass for all the dumb toys and hobbies to keep little Jimmy entertained.
Consumerism and materialism are the reason that people become wageslaves.
Anyone intelligent that makes over 50k gross and is single should never have to worry about money at any point
Isaiah Hernandez
Because giving a summary invites morons to nitpick things that are already addressed within the body of the work.
But fuck it, here's a quick rundown: >People will do anything for their kids, including working two jobs to get them into a good school district.
>People will do anything for their kids, including working two jobs to get them into a black-free school district.
>Capitalism inherited poverty, it didn't create it. (Your worthless parents fucking did.)
>Capitalism fixes poverty (Singapore 1950 - 2010) while the best alternative crystallizes it (Cuba 1950 - 2010)
Luke Parker
This pretty much.
Good luck finding a woman to share this sort of sentiment with. I know a guy at work who is married, has two kids, and a wife who stays at home with them. We don't talk salary but I'd peg him as making around $65k/yr or so.
He lucked out because he got a wife who understands what is needed to make this work. They drive older cars and only pay for them in cash. He has no education debt because he was in the military. He used a huge down payment on his home and only has a ten year mortgage. He has to be one of the most disciplined people I know.
Grayson Lopez
>the best alternative crystallizes it (Cuba 1950 - 2010)
English is not my first language. What do you mean by "crystallize"?
Asher Gomez
To freeze in time or place.
Cuba was thriving and growing its way out of poverty thanks to US tourism and mafia-run casinos.
Then the Revolucion happened.
Now, to this very day, they still drive cars from the 50s. And are still as poor as they were in the 1950s.
Benjamin Diaz
Ah, thank you.
Christopher Martinez
Cuba isn't the best alternative tho
Aaron Wood
>Because giving a summary invites morons to nitpick things that are already addressed within the body of the work.
Cuba's a random example. North Korea is worse. China only recovered due to adopting greedy evil capitalism. Europe froze its progress and postwar recovery in place as it socialized pieces of its economy one-by-one (note how even western Europe is as poor as the US's poorer states).
We can cherry pick and quibble over examples all day, but there's no economic system where people will risk their lives to flee to, other than capitalism.
Cameron Bell
Don't worry about being nitpicked here, Veeky Forums is a safe space.
Ryan Davis
You know how I know you're poor?
Jace Martin
capitalism isnt the problem, government is the problem. Also unions, stupid people, greedy politicians.
Lincoln Williams
>Because we aren't progressing idiot. There's an epidemic of cron seconding that
Benjamin Clark
Basically these. The US at least has gotten to a point culturally where people believe they have to have particular things to live "normally", things which they flat out cannot afford. The finance industry is happy to let people rack up tabs living a life twice their salary because the government will always have their backs, and the politicians are happy to promise their constituents a life twice their salary because that's how you get elected.
Nevermind the cost. I'm sure some evil rich person who stole all the money will be able to cover it by paying his "fair share".
Jackson Cruz
Looks at the quality of life now vs then. The married couple will now both have cellphones, computers, two cars that don't break down for 100k miles, improved healthcare treatments, cheap airfare. Capitalism creates ultrawealth for the rich, but gives an increased standard of living to the middle and lower class.
Kayden Rodriguez
t. Someone who's never been poor
Charles Adams
>So why life isn't getting easier? government is stealing all the wealth, all the while pretending to help.
Chase James
He's right.
Brandon Ward
Some of the time. Having been raised by a single mother, I was lucky to go to school. Is public education "materialism"?
Adam Morris
His post didn't even mention public education. It did mention student loans which are almost universally referring to loans for college education, which isn't public education. Also, contrary to popular belief, pretty much anyone can afford to send their kids to a reasonable state college debt free if they start saving early and have good financial discipline.
>But my family didn't save and wasn't financially responsible, how is that fair to me? It's not, but it's not on the rest of the world to fix your parents mistakes. Do better for your children than your parents did for you. That means saving early, saving often, and not making babies with people you can't trust to help you raise them.
>b-b-but y-you're not p-p-poor! u dont no wut its liek maaaaan! You're absolutely right. I don't fucking know what it's like to be poor... because I don't waste all my money. Rich people's kids tend to be rich people not because the kids inherit a buttload of money but because they raise them with a series of habits and personalities that predispose them to generating and retaining wealth. Poor people do the same because they don't teach their kids those same habits. I've seen rich people get poor and poor people get rich. Sometimes, rarely, rich people get poor because tragedy strikes their lives and takes away everything they earned. Sometimes, rarely, luck falls on the poor and they get rich through life's lottery, but most of the time people who spend more than they earn end up poor and those who spend less than they earn end up rich.
