Obscure, forgotten, rare

Original, interesting, little known.
I start with Tatra 613.

Rare, and brilliant back in the day.

One of the benchmarks for all modern day vans

youtube.com/watch?v=hfqZ2XBOVnk

There was one of these a KGB one at that apparently, for sale in the states not to long ago.

Was pretty neat. On the other side of the country though so only saw it in pictures but still thought it was cool.

For a car from 74 damn that looks new.

Isn'i it just a Suzuki?

Its original, 70's image looks inpired by VW 412 for me. An nteresting plot twist, knowing where the rear-engined Volkswages came from.

A mentioned VW, also kinda forgotten thing

Another thing from the East Europe

...

...

Taylor Aerocar, maybe most known attempt to roadable aircraft/flying car.

The Amphicar, one of most successfull civilian amphibious cars. Along with Amphi Ranger.

I have a real hardon for these at the moment, but I know it will be nearly impossible to obtain one at a reasonable price.

Pic related is an even more unobtainable boxy commie limo, a ZIL 4102. Looks like the unholy union of a Volvo 740, an Audi 100 and a brick wall. Only 3 prototypes were made. Cool as fuck.

What? I have never seen on of these, haven't researched ZIL (ЗИЛ) too much yet. I do know ZIL being quite conservative with their design. This looks very radical to compared to their previous models such as ZIL-114 and ZIL-117. I can only imagine this being another one of those projects that were full of hope of being something else since the USSR began to open up (petesroika and glasnost) and then got abandoned after the fall of USSR. Just like Buran space shuttle. Left untouched in a hangar to rot away.

Wow newer heard about 4102, looks interesting.
You can still buy an 4104 or 114... maybe.

This is one of the few documented examples of a fully functional GM product. Perhaps one of the rarest finds in this thread. It is not known if this truck is still privately owned, or if the Smithsonian has taken it for posterity sake.

Wanna sth really rare? An usable commie car. Even if Clarkson doubts.

Back on track - a lost gem, forgotten future, car we all want, wasted brilliant tech...

...

Even more obscure version -
T613K

And then that hanger collapsed, and killed like 12 people. Sad

The prototype for atmospheric flight-testing is on display in Speyer, Germany. They built a nice hall around it and you can look inside.

This is /o, You know...

The Plastic Disaster - which I love for some reason

Earlier model, with normal body (who the hell takes the idea of making a shooting brake the only available option?)

In 56, the hungarian authorities decided to have a contest to see who could design the best microcar to be put into production.
After the terms of the Warsaw Pact, Hungary was banned from producing cars, but they were allowed to produce bikes, so they used a loophole similar to the one usef in France and the UK to allow microcars : with a smaller engine, no doors and no side-by-side seats, they could build "cars" that would fall under the motorcycle category.
Sadly the project didn't go all the way, but they still had the opportunity to show the submitted designs to the public.

Two of the cars, with hungarian dudes for scale.

RR V8 to show those Porsche posers how it's done.

Nearly got a coupe too.

The La Da-Lat
Short-lived joined venture between Citroën and some vietnamese manufacturers in South-Vietnam in an attempt to get an automotive industry started. Some models were already built under licence but this is the first car designed with use in Vietnam specifically in mind. Based on the Citroën FAF, a Mehari with metal body rather than plastic, somewhat lifted and equipped with bigger wheels to deal with countryside roads or lack thereof. The body was made out of folded metal panels which made it very easy to build.
Very few were produced, for relatively obvious political reasons but also due to the lack of competent workers in South Vietnam at the time, the engineers and executives from Citroën found themselves working with people who had no experience with factory work whatsoever as they were all farmers displaced by the division of the country.

>aircooled v8
wew

This Mitsubishi Mirage GT/Dodge Colt GT. Only about 1,500 were produced, 900 Mirage GT's and 600 Colt GT's. These are quite difficult to find since majority of them have been tracked or wrecked. The reason so is because the transmission can easily handle the very popular 4G63T swap. Even then the car weighs at most a measly 1,500-2,000lbs, so it's sought after to those who know about these forgotten relics but to everyone else it's a "Honda Civic Hatchback"/"Suzuki Swift".

There's cars there as well.
A Mercedes 540K is literally parked below it.

The madman posted it again

My definition of an SUV:

A V12 sportscar with all wheel drive and offroad suspension.

The front end on these things remind me of the S13. Not a bad thing. I wish there were more out there.

...

Fuck, now I want one user.

The best part of the Mega Track is that every other vehicle that Axiom made was a shitty FWD city car

you know he's a shitposter that has posted the same exact image with the same exact filename over 400 times himself alone trying to force a meme, right?

>some random shitty tripfag
of fucking course

Ligier wanted to be a sportscar brand and built a mid engined car with the Citroen SM drivetrain to race in le mans, but found out licenless cars are much more profitable as well.

...

...

That's actually brought up a lot when people see these cars, it looks like a Silvia in the front with the headlights and all but it's also got that hot hatch styling.

I don't think I'll ever sell mine.

Another important thing is that at that time in France, there were pretty hard limitations on what could be built in terms of "sport cars" (due to limited sizes and capacities for engines), which is why no french brand could ever really develop into this area. same thing happened to Matra when they tried to get into that market, it turned out the limitations made their cars inferior to the foreign competition (german in particular)

Nah, matra was killed by peugeot to make more hot hatches, not because it was inferior to the german competition.

I mean sure it came out underpowered, but the plans to fit a supercharger, a Dohc 16V head and a V12 were denied by management.

I think french manufactores stopped being able to make big engines the moment they decided to stay out of the US Market, which is the one that buys the more powerful cars that serve as halo for the smallest engine cars, which actually sell in Europe. No way to recover the investment.

Dude, the termination of the Murena was decided before the 205 even came out. Simca going bust in 1980 really didn't help either when it comes to financing the projects.
But deep down the flaws in design largely came from the legal limitations on carmakers. Originally in hope that would limit the speed of cars (as legal speed limits on the roads were first introduced in 1973), then maintained to make sure the carsmakers don't just start making nothing but big and expensive cars the average Jean couldn't afford (also the oversight over what "segments" of the industry carmakers covered did hurt some a bit, Facel-Vega comes to mind). And this sort of things lasted for a long time, it was only last year that the limitation on bike engines, and they are now required to have additional safety systels as a counterpart.
That is a bog thing that limited the potential of french cars in the 60s and 70s, and part of why hot-hatches did so well too from the mid 80s on.

Well if you want direct replacements the murena production line was retooled to produce the renault espace, since peugeot bought simca and was unwilling to support the murena, leading matra to go to renault who was more interested in the rust proof chassis.

Did not deserve to go the way it did.

...

I miss the Matra. They were good old french madmobiles and we don't make them as mad anymore.
The Bageera takes the bonkers award though with the all-vertical controls.

That’s at the Lane Motor Museum, isn’t it?

Subaru Alcyone VR Turbo

The original SUV/crossover

>Nearly got a coupe too.
Nearly got a supercar too. Dunno if these were good, but were good looking with no doubt.
Strangly no more supercars/sports cars with T613 powerplant - it looks perfect to small series RR vehicles.

Lada Samara EVA
What would have been Lada's entry into Group B if it was not axed. Designed by a bunch of go-getters in the back of an old bus factory in a Soviet-Sattellite capital city.

wtf this thing sounds sick

maybe if we all band together and take out homeloans we be able to afford the glorious nip mobile

sounds like an aircraft engine.

also aircooled

I saw one in person, had such an unforgettable presence idk

A reskinned VW Santana sold here in South America as the Ford Versailles (Galaxy for Argentina) as a replacement for the Sierra. It's pretty rare nowadays

Golf Country.
An off-roading 4x4 Golf MkII.
I've seen one real Country in my life, the rest were modified Syncros, albeit those are also somewhat rare, but not to the same extent.

>Captcha: Desire Volvo
i think google is reading our minds, lads

I'm hard rn guys

1999-2002 hsv senator signature sport.

Mainly for that stupid bodykit and comfy interior

is 4x4 hatchbacks your fetish too?

Looks like a baby xj Cherokee

Qteeeee

I like 4x4/offroad shit that isn't supposed to be 4x4. And i don't like offroading, it just looks badass.
All the lifted muscle cars and hatches etc. And no i haven't seen Mad Max.

>no i haven't seen Mad Max.

>real picture of an Veeky Forumstist riding in the back of mom's corolla

well watch mad max then you faggot, its a fun little chase flick, plenty of neat vehicles too.
I like weird 4x4's because here in Scandinavia they can actually be surprisingly useful in winter

I've spotted about 4 in the wild, would drive past one every morning to class, never spoke to the owner sadly.
Spotted 1 when visiting Germany, other 2 were random highway spots.

>He doesn't know what a base spec au2 Fairmont interior looks like

Baltic fag here, same shit just a bit less snow.
I'll probably watch it later, hoping it's not too dumb

>real picture of an Veeky Forumstist in the front seat of mom's corolla, door ajar so he can quickly hop out when police drive by cause he don't got no license

FYI this is the car I'm talking about

Nice corolla with a body kit, not falling for it.

Its a no-brain action flick centered around a massive car chase, with HEAVILY modified """cars"""

We know and shall return when the timing is critical.

wtf
every fucking 100 series engine I've seen overheats and blows head gaskets
I suppose the panda does get the low power high capacity version tho

Italian, Swiss and Austrian police used them as their standard patrol cars in mountainous regions for all of the 90s and some of the early 2000s.
Pretty good.

>photoshopped smoke

I'd never actually do anything that brazen or stupid

My main theory is that fiats dont do well in cold climates, ask anyone in the northern part of europe and they'll slag on fiats till the sun comes up.

Looks like a real fire extinguisher powder to me

scrapped because normies cannot into turbo lag

>not averting the late 70's oil crisis by running your turbine hatchback off of nail polish

Wrong
>scrapped because it came before unleaded fuel and by the time it was put on the market, there were barely any ways to fuel it without damaging it.

you read a different article on it?

I thought it never reached the market.

Wrong and wrong

>classic '60s men in black conspiracy

any other memorable memes?

Learn and read sth before starting babbling in yiddish, OK? It's a fact, not a "conspiracy theory".
