Zooming in is what allows long range meta to be so dominant, because you can get such a clear picture of your target it's easy to hit the same component consistently.

Completely different story when you try to snipe people from 1km away without zooming in. All you see is a black blob covered by your crosshair.

Making convergence S I G N I F I C A N T L Y slower would also help. Kind of like in World of Tanks or whatever where you have to actually wait for your turret to converge on your crosshair before you can get an accurate shot.
