You seem to have a messed up memory.
Tamamo was the one about to be fucked due to Word of Dispel running out, but then Nero and Neris saved her.
The ones Tamamo bailed out were Lazarus and Merlin against Grangold King.

Nero and Neris didn't transform when fighting Shikimamo, and purposely fought with the bare minimum power necessary to force her to retreat.

It's not like those two things are at odds. Ancestor Tamamo literally could have done those same things in part 1

It means that the two people most knowledgeable on how Tamamo fights were somehow still at a disadvantage while fighting her. It's a retcon so egregious that it borders on a plothole.

What are you even talking about? They never even fight, they just combine their power to take her out quickly to avoid a fight in the first place because there's no need to drag yourself into a fight with one of the most powerful beings in the universe if you don't have to.

We don't even know how one would measure up to the other in a one-on-one fight
