every nfs game is basically a re-telling of Tokyo Drift, intentionally or not. top speed matters more than anything else since you dont bleed speed in driffs and the "villains" usually drive japanese tuners or pretentious bong/german luxury cars. I don't think a final stage of NFS or any arcade racer really has ever used an american car, but american cars are usually the best because of the driving model preferring slippery but very fast cars.

the closest thing to a REAL villain that might have actually killed a guy or something was in The Run, and he drives an Aston One-77. I think you're intended to beat him in a Ford GT or whatever the newest corvette at the time was, and the highway point-to-point setting vastly prefers top speed over cornering/drifting.

not that guy but off the top of my head, probably a hardware issue. emulation is shitty because computation power isn't like a bucket of sand that you have tons of of or not a lot of -- things are computed in very specific ways. Some computer equipment simply isn't built to handle that sort of calculation.

Why this is the case has to do with literal physical engineering -- physical chips can be optimized better than code for specific operations. It's why video cards outpace CPUs for video performance.

A modern PC can calculate anything given, and the key differences are the time it takes and how many levels of interpretation the problem and solution have to go through. But in early computing, things were much more rigidly defined, on much more rigid hardware, and not all of that hardware is still known nor has all the known hardware's engineering leaked, nor are there enough nerds who still care to understand or fucking reverse-engineer the known engineering. Some do exist, but please consider the capabilities of disjointed nerds on Discord and Github versus corporate-paid design teams doing 9-to-5 AND 1800-to-0800 shifts.

Anyway, the tl;dr is that to make the calculations that might have been trivial before is non-trivial now, and the way calculations were made at all may have been lost entirely over time.

Even modern emulators or modern consoles suffer from this; That one star wars X-Wing game on Gamecube is considered a holy grail of GC emulation because it has never, ever worked right. Wind Waker is a close second, because Nintendo is known for making games that never crash or fail graphics despite all other broken-ness, but WW was unplayable on Dolphin for a long time. It only became playable fairly recently, like in 2014 or something.

It's not impossible, Dead Heat runs on the same platform as the newer Wangans and it's confirmed to work on a PC.

It's a matter of getting past all the security checks, all modern arcades use PC parts so there's no need to emulate a completely different system.

Just got ID6AA working with triple screen, but it seems as though it's impossible to continue playing even if you win. As soon as you get a game over and the game tries to go back to attract mode the emulator crashes. It just stopped doing this however, seems like you gotta mash the start button at the end of a race. Also the game does not redraw smoke sprites when running at 3xHD meaning the smallest skid leaves a gigantic smoke trail the entire width of the road. Tried Sega Racing Classic but they removed all references to Daytona from the music. Fuck the Frances.

Have YOU played RE4? You can aim as soon as you hit the aim button. You can even turn super fast with it, without using the dedicated quick-about-face function. It's integral to speedruns since you can turn so much faster by quick-aim turning (hitting the aim button with the camera at full lock left or right to make Leon instantly snap to about the left or right bow direction) than just pushing left or right on the stick or keyboard, and you turn even faster mashing the quick-side aim technique than you do just holding left or right.

This. If you hold right or left on the camera stick and aim, you can turn a lot faster, but that is not an animation trick. You can do it all the time. It even works on the PC version.
