That just means they're the characters you're most interested in right now, so if you write about them, your writing will be better. I'd much rather read storytimes written by someone who actually wants to write that story, rather than someone who feels forced or otherwise inclined to write it. You'll cycle back around to other characters eventually.

I usually try to implement alchemy with my ranger character (he lives off the land and collects ingredients out in the wild and creates potions and poisions)

Use Complete Alchemy and Cooking Overhaul.
It balances out potions while also adding new ingredients and new items like flame/shock/frost grenades.

The poisons I make and use barely help in combat.

By the time I'm already high level. I can 1-2 shot most enemies and don't need poisons. Why go through the trouble of creating a potion when I can just buy one?

Alchemy is pretty shit without some mod that drastically increases how many applications poisons get. But with those mods, I had a lot of fun once I got a mod that did that.

I thought I had the pastebin of his background story saved in my bookmarks, but it turns out I didn't.

The basic gist is that he's a Black Marsh native that got exiled from his community because of his peculiar condition; that being that his scales somehow store (and release) electricity. He has no tail because the people of his home village cut it off, thinking it acted like a lightning rod, attracting the electricity to him. When that turned out to not be the case, they simply drove him off.

Due to this condition, he has a hard time making friends or even approaching people, really. He was briefly featured in my ongoing story, during the Preparation chapters, if you're interested.

Early game is pretty boring no matter what.
