Man, this used to be MY BRAND growing up. Mom and aunt always had a Mercedes. When I was 15/16 I got a 1989 300E as a hand-me-down. Took my drivers test in it. Drove it throughout high school and college. I graduated college and when all my friends were buying family cars and/or sportscars I went and bought a 1990 300CE. The W124/C124 was one of the greatest Mercedes platforms of all time. Straight-sixes, not too big, not too small, nimble as fuck, engineered like a tank and luxurious. The air vents... They were real metal with black powdercoat. My 300CE had seatbelt feeders that electronically handed you the seatbelt automatically when you closed the door, fucking 1990. Now I watch Doug Demuro seriously claim it as a "cool quirk" on a 2016 Bentley.

But then one day I just got tired. My legit master mechanic uncle passed away so I couldn't get free repairs anymore, and all I could afford now were the less-appealing DaimlerChrysler era Benzes, so I just moved on to cheap-ass Japanese econoboxes.

But ever since the new W222 S-Class Mercedes is back to being better than ever. I cannot wait until I can find a well-maintained current-gen (W213) E-Class coupe to re-live my past.

I don't really know; you're probably right. The last Mercedes I drove was my aunt's old 2010 C300. Nothing really special about it. The entire center console's vinyl coating is peeling around all the edges, all the buttons and air vents are quite clearly plastic, so yeah, I know.

However most of the automotive journalism seems to say that Mercedes is back. I'm not talking abojt intentionally shit models like the CLA, but for comparison, the current C-Class gets very high marques for its interior. Everyrhing that looks like metal is actually metal again. And Mercedes is bringing back straight-six engines which I'm really happy about solely for nostalgia purposes.

Time will tell I suppose, but I look back so fondly on my automotive experiences from my youth and am jonesing for those experiences again.

1969 W116. Toughest little car I've ever driven. Best thing I've ever driven in the snow. Maintenance was the cheapest because everything that broke could be fixed. MBTex will seemingly never disintegrate.

My dad have had every single E-class and a 190E before that and he says that the W212 is the only one that comes close to W124

personally, i prefer the pre 2000 cars way better than the hideous 2000-2010 line. um and the post 2010 cars look like shit desu, the interior is nice but on the outside they're sleeper as fuck(im looking at you, s class)
