Squeezing fat meats on some fly wheels?

How far can you push the envelope when it comes to tire vs wheel width? Specifically, I'm looking to get a set of staggered wheels and tires. 20x10 with 305/35r20 MT Street Comps in the rear and hoping to squeeze 275/35r20's on 20x8.5's in the front. The minimum recommended wheel width for the 275/35r20 is listed at 9", but it seems some people on forums put them on 8.5" wheels anyways, yet others swear against it. Is it really so bad to do?

That's kinda pushing it. I would go 295 max for a 10 inch wheel. At a certain point, the tire caves inward and the contact patch is shortened.

I don't know the wheel sizes but we have vans that run 305 tires on wheels that were intended to run 195 tires and they go screaming through the corners with 21 people in a 12 seater van. You can literally see the white lettering of hankook ventus 101 tires almost horizontal

I run 305 drag radials on a 9.5" wheel, never had any problems.

Tires should go on your regular wheels not your flywheels

It can be argued that reduced performance is a problem, albeit not a dangerous one, for the most part.

All depends on the profile you turkeys!

keep it stock faggot.

kek, I see what you did there

It's a 2014 Mustang GT and I already get enough shit from coworkers for it still being stock after a year and a half of owning it. Buying new wheels/tires in stock sizes seems like a crime.

Let me drop another bomb though, what if I didn't get staggered wheels, but instead got 20x10's all the way around with 275/35r20 in front and 305/35r20 in rear? Supposedly the 48mm offset convex AMR wheels will work and then the tires would each be within recommended wheel size limits. Might only need to shave a couple of bolts down a tiny bit to prevent rubbing.

>though
Honestly for such a boring regular car I wouldn't waste money on mods... Just enjoy it for what it is and focus on something else in life.

If you're squaring your wheels just get the same size tires too.

Here's my summer 275 40 18 on 18x10.

lulz, nice try
I was already fairly committed to staggered wheels that can't be rotated anyways, so it wouldn't bother me to still put the widest tire I can on the back. I really just didn't want to go down to a 255 in the front

>wants to modify his car because he can't handle the bantz

You can squeeze 305s but with correct offset can't fit 11" wheels? I don't know mustang fitments just wondering. I run 305s out back on both sets of my wheels, stock being an 18x10.5 wheel and my f14s 19x11

If I could find wheels that I like in 11" I'd just go that route, but every wheel that catches my eye seems to only be available in 8.5" and 10" widths

Are the AMRs that you want not available in 9" width? I wouldn't do a 275 on an 8.5" wheel. I ran 275/40/18s on my Mustang with a 9" wheel and the sidewall bulged quite a bit. If you can't get a 9" wide wheel, I'd go for a 255/35/20 on the 8.5" wheel.

The 305s will be fine on a 10" wide wheel though.

It's irritating but they only offer them in 8.5" and 10" even though 9" would open up a lot of options for people. American Muscle says the 10" are for rear only, but the more I find it looks like they'll be fine on the front as well as long as you don't go over a 285 tire. The 275/35 street comp is looking pretty tasty on a 20x10 in the front

I ran 18x10 on all 4 corners on my car with the same 275/40/18 that I ran on the 18x9 and they fit much better. The 10" wide fronts did rub a little bit on my aftermarket front LCAs at full lock, but when i switched back to OEM control arms, the problem went away.

You could definitely do 20x10 on all 4 corners with a 275 up front and the 305 in the rear. I probably would look at some different tires though, there are better tires for the money than the MTs.

What tires would you recommend? My driving style is a lot of city/highway and only red light racing. I average about 20k miles a year so I didn't want to get something stupidly soft and be burning through a couple sets a year, but I could also easily keep my current wheels and put some winter tires on them for the icy months.

From that description I'd say the new continentals or some hankooks. I had the old continental dw and have had hankook ventus v12 evo2. Both are decent dailies and won't break the bank. But size will ultimately determine that.

Cool thanks, I'll check them out!

>wanting wide tires
enjoy your tramlining.
I miss my fucking BF goodrich tires. 3" of sidewall, cushy as fuck. None of the feedback from the road gets to the steering wheel.

Keep what this poster said in mind i went 275 and 285 on my new edge mustang and damn it was a bitch to keep straight on roads with a lot of crowning. Also why do you want to go bigger tires looks or performance. if its looks go for it but dont go to big on front i would say 275 max and on rear you can probably pull off the 305. keep in mind the bigger the tire the more performance you lose.

stock class integra type R guys squeeze 275s on stock 6" wheels. Im sure youll be fine. I ran 225's on 6's once and it was fine.

yea...I upgraded from a V6 to a V8 and fuck man, the tire difference between the two i almost hate driving it now

My daily for 7 years before I bought this car was a lifted Wrangler with 35x12.5" mud tires. It was a constant white-knuckle fight to keep it in a straight line on the highway. It is something to think about, but I have a feeling even with wider tires the Mustang will still handle like a dream in comparison.

There is something called sever tire failure. If your vans were to switch to tires made for that rim they would see a drastic improvement in handling, acceleration, braking. and saving a few bucks for your wallet since wider tires cost more than narrow tires. This pic is what i meant of going to wide a tire for a rim.

Use this website and look at the bottom diameter variance and that will tell you what you can and cant run size wise on your vehicle

Almost forgot make sure to use the manual tab and input desired sizes after you first input your vehicle info.

255/70/15 on 7 inch stocks, not an issue even with 4200lbs getting thrown completely sideways around corners, my cousins '29 model a is running 295/50/15 in the rear on 8 inch wheels for the last 10 years.

all taht delicious sidewall, fuck im jealous.
