they don't have 911 glued to the back
Because it's the "My wife won't let me get a 911" Most men don't want to be seen in one. Aren't they like $70k for 300hp?
The 07 Cayman S has 290 HP and a high mileage one can be had for under 20k
Pre-facelift first gens are still at (a very small) risk of IMS bearing failure, and they don't carry the same cred as a 911.
Great cars though.
That's far from a good deal. Don't they have that bearing issue?
you'll spend that much in repairs desu. a good rule for these kinds of cars is can you afford it brand new? no? then you probably can't afford it used either
To my knowledge the IMS issue got fixed in 2005, when the first caymans came out. But don't quote me on that, I'll go do some research
That's when they started using stronger bearings again, although the actual design flaw got fixed around 2009 with the all new engine family.
Just check the oil for metal particles with every oil change and when in doubt, get that bearing swapped out. Sadly it's an awful lot of work on 987s to do that, way more than how simple it was on the 986.
07 corvette is also $20k
guess what. cars lose value
>power is the only thing that matters
they handle amazingly well, great drivers cars.
This. The handling is the best thing about Porsches. The numbers are always lower than what the car is actually capable of, and they absolutely rape every thing in their HP range. You can have a shot against a Porsche if you have about a third more HP.
damn I checked and even in Frogistant you get them at a dealership for around 20 K
they have around 150 K km on the clock though
are these reliable ? does the interior hold well ?
Porsche interiors usually hold up very well, even on the cheapest (996/986) generations.
And 150k km on the clock means risk of IMS bearing failure is probably pretty low, if it was gonna fail it'd most likely have done so before 100k.
hum ok i will keep that in mind
do you know if maintenance on them is easy ? if i buy one i don't thing i will ever sell it so not having records probably won't be an issue
>My wife won't let me get a 911
No, that's the Panamera. Cayman is the "I couldn't afford a 911 but I want to drive a Porsche before I die" car. Especially base Caymans.
Why would your wife have anything to do with the car you want to buy?
That's generally how marriage works. Especially if you don't wear the pants in the marriage.
They're not the worst to work on, although a lift will definitely come in handy. Parts are expensive, so are dealerships. Maintenance records from previous owners are definitely nice to have, if only to be sure that it wasn't neglected.
Whether you decide to work on it yourself or not, it's a good idea to get acquainted with a local Porsche specialist either way. Pay them for a pre-purchase inspection, it's money well spent as it can prevent nasty repair costs further down the line.
I'd rather have a cayman S than a 911 turbo.
I think they look better and I'd rather have my engine in the middle than all the way in the back so I can have useless back seats.
ok thanks dude
t. not married
and its not that you care what she thinks, its that she will be so god damn annoying if you make a financial decision she doesnt like.
routine maintenance will be a headache for years.
>I TOLD you that stupid PORSH was a MONEY PIT why didnt you get SUBURU LIKE I SAID?
women bitch its the bottom line.
t. skirt wearers.
Because its just a hard top porsche boxter?
Can confirm, my dad just bought a Cayman. The S is way out of reach, as are 911s. Still a great car, though it tries to remind you it's a base model car at every turn.
>2013
>no bluetooth audio
>no USB for media
This. A car normie friend of mine wanted to get an old Civic or Sentra to learn manual on after he started watching Initial D with me and his wife was like UH UH OH NO NO WAY FORGET IT. Like how much of a cuck do you have to be to let someone tell you what to do with YOUR money? youtube.com
Perhaps his family's financials aren't entirely in order, and his significant other doesn't see the point in spending money on something as frivolous as her husband wanting to live out a fantasy he developed after watching a silly cartoon about Japanese kids doing hektik skids?
The Cayman GT4 would be reasonable if it wasn't valued at 30k over the MSRP.
God damn tho if I don't want one.
