Yes

Straight pipe is redneck tier. Mufflers of some sort is tasteful.

>straight pipe is redneck tier
Not everyone drives a shitty sounding vtack.

str8 pipe

claiming exaust mods are douchery is like claiming anything but oem wheels are retarded.

Neither a diesel Fiat.

busdriver confession: i know fuck all what changing exhaust pipes does beyond changing the sound

Is there any actual performance gain from chopping off cats and mufflers?

>he's never heard a 1993 5.0L F-150 with dual straight pipes

That sound is pure sex my friend, That was my first truck. Loud but doesn't crack, very deep idle.

wew lad

if your cars isn't well design yes because it's causes an airflow restriction
but more often they replace the factory exhaust to reduce weight

Ok, so that’s why titanium exhaust is a thing, right, since it can be built at the same strength with less material?

Reduces restriction and exhaust can flow out more freely, increasing power slightly.

Gasoline engines need something called "back pressure" just a little bit of restriction is required to keep the exhaust from going backwards and sucked back into the engine.

Titanium is as light as aluminum and strong as steel

I thought diesels need some back pressure, too?

>loses weight
>less restriction, easiest way to gain power in NA
>stimulates the senses

What about in a turbo car? Does it still provide gains, or is it pointless due to the restriction of the turbo?

okay that was helpful, thanks

yeah exactly

Back pressure is terrible in turbo cars, so if the "removing exhaust removes back pressure" claim is true, then there will be noticeable performance gainz

Straight pipe doesn't matter it just makes what you have louder, it's how your exhaust manifold is set up that determines how your car sounds, just look at subaru, they are just 4 cylinder engines but they sound good because of the headers.

Backpressure is a myth. It stems from the fact that an exhaust that's too large will actually reduce performance, which is true, but not because it pushes back against the exhaust gas.
What you want is an exhaust diameter that doesn't limit flow rate but doesn't drop the exhaust gas velocity down too far. This exhaust gas velocity actually results in more exhaust gas being pulled from the combustion chamber, which in turn means a more efficient running engine and more power as a result.

For turbos you just want as much raw, unrestricted flow as you can get though.

Wow this makes so much more sense now.
>t. someone who has a basic understanding of fluid mechanics but never connected the dots

this board cares way too much about what purists think
find an exhaust mod that gives you performance and sounds good through research and go for it, only thing douchy is people that shit on others for improving their vehicles

Follow up thought: what would the optimal velocity for the exhaust gas be? If F=AV (where volumetric flow rate is F, cross sectional area of exhaust tube is A, and velocity is V), one could potentially create the perfect size exhaust for any engine by knowing the value of F at a given RPM and the optimal value of V.

I don't know the exact numbers, but yeah, that's exactly what they do.

>sounding good

straight pipe is the only objective complete shit exhaust setup

A nice exhaust like a borla or magnaflow is pretty much all about sound. Hp increas is pretty much bullshit, maybe 1-2hp increase at most if the car already has a pretty good exhaust system from the factory. A good exhaust is about having a nice deep and ear pleasing tone, not pure loudness. A nice CAI with a high quality exhaust is pretty much ear candy. Most people think custom exhaust are just fart cans, but in reality, more people have fart cans because they can't afford a true custom exhaust and they love to be annoying

>he said something not wrong for once
though, an exhaust setup without a resonator/presilencer is garbage too imo

you can even make a fart cannon apexi sound good as long as you have a resonator in line with it.

Straight pipe is literally the best option on all V8s and a number of other engines

literally no. exhaust scavenging is almost completely non-existent unless you have an x/h midpipe

retard

>not going open headers
Makes straight piped cars sound like mopeds

youtube.com/watch?v=fCio5K0WfHU

Straight pipe is necessary when at high speeds like 80mph+ because even with loud mufflers you won't hear much over the wind

Bypass valves bro

as long as its for the sole purpose of performance and quality of sound. then yes an exhaust mod can be tasteful.
emphasis on quality of sound.
sure your car can sound fucking load as hell with an exhaust delete, but it'll hurt the performance of your car and it'll sound like ass.
so just make sure if you're going to mod your cars exhaust then do it with quality parts and care for the vehicle
