V8

>V8
>Less than 400HP

There are two ends of the scale with V8s, ones that make huge HP and ones that make low HP and run forever. 400hp is probably somewhere in the middle. (Ignoring retarded exceptions like the Northstar)

Just because there are 8 cylinders and they so happen to be in a V shape doesn't make an engine either shit or magical because it makes 400hp.

Also
>his engine doesn't explode right after setting a qualifying lap
In the words of mister Chapman: Any car which holds together for a whole race is too heavy.

>implying we have a paid crew to rebuild a massive turbocharged engine when it fails

>implying and don't have trained rats

A thing that American car manufacturers don't understand.

>not exclusively driving dragsters
>not overhauling your engine after every single time you run it

Not needing to find a bathroom really opens up a lot of extra R&D time.

Those 80's turbo F1 engines were unreliable as fuck. Most blew on the test stand during the fuel mapping process before they even made it into the car. They were heavily detuned for most of the race.

What car?
