2007 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG

Hey/o/,
I currently have a boner for the S65. I really enjoy a luxoboat and I want to have the ultimate V12 that I can afford. I also find the body colored strakes on the taillights to be particularly fetching. What's the inside dope on these?

The other end just for reference.

buy a warranty or have another car to use so that it doesnt rack up too many miles

although i should add that they're pretty sturdy but will need a lot if money to keep them running well
check out a d3 s8,unless you really want a v12

It would be my 3rd car. The car I would be replacing with the S65 is primarily used as a weekend car.

>I want to have the ultimate V12 that I can afford.

You can't afford it if you have to buy a 10 year old one.

well then if it all checks out i can't see why not to
dom't listen to
just set aside a bit of money for anything that pops up,you can't let things escalate

Yeah, yeah.
>hurr, if u can't afford it new you can't afford it used
My weekday cars, maybe. But a weekend car that gets ~400 miles a month of use I think I'll be OK with, providing I do my pre-purchase homework and don't buy a flogged example with tons of deferred maintenance.

>just set aside a bit of money for anything that pops up,you can't let things escalate

That brings up a good question. See, I've been pretty much pampered with my Toyotas and Lexuses, they've been so good to me. I no longer really know what a 'normal' car needs as far as a maintenance budget. What would a 10 year old Merc with around 50k miles need?

Inb4 buy a lexus. I'd like to give another manufacturer a try, and everyone goes on and on about German cars so I thought maybe I'll try one out, since the LS is nice but the interior isn't even close to the S class.

I'm going to post MB luxoboat porn for a bit.

...

MB factory tech here. Incredible cars. Really quite reliable too, but when something goes wrong lookout bank account. In other words you must get a warranty. And be sure to buy one that has been truly cared for with full service history. They are fucking rockets and the interior is fucking baller

Thank you, that's reassuring. What areas on them need the most attention?

Why don't you just lease a new one like all other wealthy/rich people?

>leasing
ew, no.

One other question: Black, silver or white?

Black is beautiful but it shows every little bit of dust, and damn if it doesn't get hot in the parking lot during the day. But it's so pretty when it's clean....

Silver: Classic and has a subtle beauty. The only thing is it seems a bit boring. It hides dirt a whole lot better than black, though.

White: lower maintenance and stays cool in the sun, but it's so...white.

Mercedes questions

1. Is the second gen CLS63 a safe car to buy used? Is it worth the premium over a CLS550? Are CLS550s a good buy?

2. Is the M276 engine in the new E400 wagons a good one?

3. Do recent mercs (2014-present) have transmission issues?

There honestly isn't a weak point. Rarely do I encounter the same issue twice. And MB really has their programming together... Unlike BMW which is like working with an Acer laptop from 2003

That's good to hear. I'm going shopping!

>hurr, if u can't afford it new you can't afford it used
It’s not even true, my car was 60k new 10 years ago and I’ve been dailying it for years without any issues

The costliest problems you’re likely to have any time soon are fixing the air suspension and transmission.

one of the ugliest s classes ever made

The answer is in your service manual.
This is why Toyota has the reputation it does. People think they don’t need maintenance. Retards who just want “a reliable car that doesn’t need money spent on it all the time”. Like cars normally do? I see more camrys broken down than any other car

Word

I don't know if that's my point, really. For instance, I've had cars that have required serious repairs even though they were maintained properly and driven gently. Nissans, for instance.

I don't think so. The previous generation looks blobby, the current gen looks too edgy.

But for the same money you could Porsche Panamera instead.

Do those have massaging seats?

I'm quite intrigued by your post user.
On the one hand i'd be one of the asses blaring "don't do it, too expensive to get parts/work done for you. you'll loose a lot of money on it."
And on the other hand i'd like to be you. Just say fuck it. Hope you get a good one. Something that works doesn't 'just' stop working. So as long as you be good to the car, it'd be good to you."
And since they've depreciated insanely you could actually get a really good deal for them.
Also: if ten years ago these cars were worth around 1$ per mile. Why wouldn't they be today? I'm sure you could drive it 100k Miles with total costs, for 10 years, at 50k$ or so.

Thank you. I want to have a fluffy overpowered magic carpet in my life and I think the S65 is my ticket.

I wonder if they'll keep depreciating. Probably, huh? Right now low mileage examples with service records and a clean history are about 30k....but the previous gen ones are like 10k. However, those are known to have issues so in staying away from them.
