The next project should be Veeky Forums designs the antithesis of Veeky Forums. What would that look like? A front wheel drive crossover coupe?

Wonder if you could prototype this with a garage welded spaceframe, ordered 3D plastic body panels, and some cannibalization of other cars.

I hope the next car we make will be modern, just to shake things up a bit.

I'm voting for mid 2000s hot hatch specifically because I've never liked any hatchback designs that came out of the 2000s besides the Swift. I want to help design something that I would buy.

Man the 80s and 90s of car design were a wild time, it was like the 60s all over again.

That said, a lot of 80s/90s sports cars are way more practical than anyone would give them credit for. My DD is an R33 and its shocking spacious in the rear seat (you can actually fit two full sized humans in there) and the boot is bigger than you'd expect. Sports cars back in the day were designed on a weird set of rules, namely that they were fun performance cars, but they were still primarily cars and thus needed things like boot space, and reasonably headspace etc.

I mean shit, you can maybe fit one child in the back seat of the Toyobaru and that's with them laying down.

This is what I don't get. You manage to increase the number of cylinders by 50% but displacement by only 11%

There were tons of 6 cylinder engines that were much larger in displacement. Nissan iirc already had a 3.5l right? So did Chevy and Ford. Their 6cylinder engines were based on a 4 cylinder engine. So you increased the cylinders but your actual piston volume dropped significantly from 450cc/cylinder to 333. This is a pretty significant increase in weight for a displacement that probably does make less power than the 4 cylinder purely because of the friction and crankshaft loss. You probably lose a lot of torque because your stroke is so small and because of that power is also very small.
