Muskets are among the fastest units in the game and regularly hit the damage cap. The ring would basically be the difference between a regular musket and TOSH (not very much).

It's more of Rance is just so content and carefree that he doesn't get Soul Pollution. If I remember correctly, in Quest, it's said that he has quite a high Soul Pollution after Sill's is frozen because he became a lot more grumpy and irritable.

In all seriousness, above all else you're striking me as hilariously inefficient. Even with your lack of conquest considered it's hard to see how you've got so little SAT, particularly given your clear usage of dungeons. Although I've not bothered to run the numbers.

It's more the fact that you've got it on Rance. For various reasons the priority for Rance should be his stats, these reasons include boss fights, his 1 vs 1s, and the potential for making him an awesome unit by exploiting the elite troops SAT Bonus.

Rance's default is 5/4/5/4, boostable to 6/6/6/6 via perfect luck with books. Natori makes that a 6/6/6/7 and I can only presume that his Cost won't go up if you make that 7/7/7/7 (I've got no clue what the mechanics of that actually are) by dumping a bunch of affection items on him. Elite Troops then makes this 8/8/8/8 and the 2nd Game Bonus textbooks make that 9/9/9/9, although that doesn't explain his Cost being 4.

Baba could first turn commander charge, therefore only taking out 1 opponent.
Ran however is likely to just nuke the whole party.
