You need to lay off the gross exaggerations a bit. Last time it was up when I was maybe 40 somethings, I got bullied by the first wave and stuck to scraping enough books for one harp off raids. Now I can blow it up in one turn by stacking 4 summon calls with Lyria.
You're not supposed to be able to jump into any EX straight away, the normal EX/Maniac showdowns are no different, they can and will kill you. Like you don't need THAT much to be able to do it with a little care, but you do still need to reach a slight entry level of progression, which sure as hell isn't HL.
Do what you can and enjoy your time but don't feel pressured to rush into everything right now.
