I'm gonna ask again regretfully playing the pos that is calamity, need essences of cinder me and my friends had a bunch somehow but we used them up and now we need more, how get calamity wiki and item tooltip seem really inconsistent and implies I'll have to spend eons farming a common crafting tool

I'm going to play this shite for the first time. How hard is expert mode?
Carson Wright
I checked the wiki but read what I posted, it's fucking inconsistent I've killed about 13 wyverns by this point and I don't think a single one has dropped the cinder, meanwhile I've seen random cinders lying around in the overworld for no reason after night calamity wiki is shit
Isaiah Perez
Hard enough For the first time just play in normal mode

Crimson vs Corruption
Which do you prefer and why?
Dominic Parker
You've been doing this for years now... I like corruptions aesthetic a lot more but crimson has way better gear.
Ayden Long
Corruption by far
Wyatt Green
Yeah, I know. But I get that many bosses require a "summoning ritual", and this sometimes without a guide is really hard to accomplish.
Adrian Kelly
Look at terraria.gamepedia.com they have a pretty solid beginner's guide. And in general is the most complete guide you'll find, it also covers the gameplay basics and the bosses strategies.
Mason Hernandez
Crimson. >more powerful items >vampire knives in biome chest >no shitty worm boss >no wide pits to die to fall damage to early game >more enemy types than just floaters before hardmode >shadewood looks better than ebonwood >no ugly barf green and purple color scheme
Andrew White
No they don't Just get into a habit of shoving everything new you find to guide. He can tell everything you can craft from an item. And items can only be crafted into something if they have "material" in the tooltip.

>Asked Apr 16, 2016 Little over a year, right before 1.3 There was a few months long break where i did not post it, i had lost the link (i never left though), but i recently found it again. Veeky Forums seems to be very evenly split about C vs C, ever since i first posted the poll Corruption was pulling ahead VERY slowly, but surely, until it reached 42% vs 58%. It stayed like that for a long time. Only recently after i found the link again did a few Crimson anons bring it to 43% v 57% I'm also quite impressed that not only is this general still alive, but we keep getting new votes, which means we keep getting new posters.
I find this poll quite interesting and can't bear to bring myself to stop. A few people have complained about it but you can't please everyone, and i did a poll which asked wether i should stop or not and the majority told me to keep it. Besides, it's a free bump, an excuse for others to bump, and sometimes it generates a discussion.

Corruption because >Purple is a nicer color than crimson red >The music is better >I like the idea of a corrupted world better than one made of flesh, especially when you consider it spreads >The world gen is more unique and makes for an early environmental challenge >Enemies don't make annoying sounds >Enemies aren't just recolored spiders and zombies >Fighting the EoW is more satisfying than BoC, especially with piercing weapons >The items you get from Shadow Orbs are far better and more fun than their Crimson counterparts >Worm Scarf >Nostalgia

It's too late to end the general now. If we ended it after the activity considerably slowed down, Veeky Forums could stay as a good memory in the back of our minds (like /ntg/ for me personally, god I miss /ntg/) But it's too late for that now, so let's just keep going and see what happens.

>last year winter steam sale > this game is on sale >somewhat interested since I enjoyed minecraft way back in beta days, as well as building/crafting/exploring games >figured this would satisfy the urge to play something like that since I haven't played minecraft in years >asked on /v/ whether this game was worth it >some retards say that it is absolutely worth it and that I will play a "shit ton of thousands of hours" >go ahead and buy it for around $10 or so >play it a couple of times, try my hardest to get into it, look at youtube videos and everything >completely boring and annoying game, just complete shit Worst $10 I've ever spent on Steam. I've no idea what kind of autism you have to have to enjoy this pile of shit. Shitty, imprecise, and floaty controls and physics, the 2-d view is complete trash, and it just lacks the charm that minecraft; the sound and art design is shit.

Can you read? I said this game is complete shit, I didn't say it was cool.
Christopher Murphy
Not quite easy to take serisouly when you take fucking minecraft over this. Terraria is about progression, even if you don't enjoy building and shit you can always aspire to be the strongest guy there ever was and beat unique and strong bosses to prove that, and get even strong and unique way to crush your enemies Games biggest charm is it's sense of scale and how packed with content it is, no matter what you do, there's always more to do. It's 2D gameplay is one of the best metroidvania playstyle out there, if you genuinely dislike it you probably just don't like that gameplay style.
>minecraft >get iron >get diamond >the end such charm
Austin Brown
Can anyone explain what this is that I just dug myself into?
Aaron Morgan
I'm not arguing for minecraft, like I said I haven't played it in years. I did enjoy it though- and I liked many of its core elements like its focus on surviving. As far as I remember this game doesn't have that, there is no farming, hunting, or eating just to survive. I know I sound like I'm defending minecraft, but I am simply comparing it to something that I like. >Games biggest charm is it's sense of scale and how packed with content it is I got exactly the opposite feeling. Another thing that minecraft did right and this game didn't. It feels like you can walk from one end of the map to the other in a few minutes at most. You never get a sense of gigantic scale because of the zoomed in 2D screen. >It's 2D gameplay is one of the best metroidvania playstyle out there, if you genuinely dislike it you probably just don't like that gameplay style. I've never really thought about it that way but I guess you are right. However, I do like old-school metroid and I do like 2D games, but like I said before the controls in this game make that style of play complete shit. The mouse and keyboard does not do it any favors. Wouldn't you agree that the pickaxe and sword swinging is imprecise and feels like shit? It even makes placing blocks a pain.
Jonathan Myers
Pull it. Maybe you'll become king.
Gavin Smith
>Wouldn't you agree that the pickaxe and sword swinging is imprecise and feels like shit? It even makes placing blocks a pain. >put arrow where you want to mine >it mines that exact block >put arrow where you want to place block >it places it in that exact spot ???
Jack Cruz
you're retarded.
Benjamin Jenkins
>its focus on surviving. As far as I remember this game doesn't have that Of course, Terraria isn't a survival game it's more of an open-world adventure game, you explore and find new things. The good thing about it is that it offers you new things, and by new I don't mean a new weapon that has better stats, fundamentally new things that will give your adventuring and a new way of doing things. You'll get a grappling hook, an item that let's you jump twice, rocket boots, shield that let's you dash into enemies etc.
>It feels like you can walk from one end of the map to the other in a few minutes at most. Get a bigger map size if that's how you want it, large is quite... well large.
>There are keyboard shortcuts, ctrl makes it so you can auto mine, you can hover over a block or anything and press and hold shift to use the appropriate item, for example if hold shift while hovering over nothing you can hold up a torch to light up your way.
>Wouldn't you agree that the pickaxe and sword swinging is imprecise It's not really imprecise... if you click over a block it breaks that exact block, if you mean that it's hard to hover over every single block you can use shift button like I mentioned.
>youtube.com/watch?v=eSV0GO1Q3Co Also watch this if you want. The guy basically has the same problems as you with the start of he game (and it's understandable really.)
Leo Ward
It's a lottery Just "dig" it. You'll either get yourself an Arkhalis or a Beam Sword
Benjamin Sullivan
That video made me realize somrthing: Crimson is a lot better for blind LPs than corruption. While corruption is mostly just creepy and unsettling, crimson can be actually scary Crimson enemies are a lot more "HOLY SHIT THE FUCK IS THAT" than corruption ones. And especially the hearts. Shadow orbs are just "what?". You won't feel anything about it except maybe "this looks kinda mysterious". But if you find a heart, you're gonnna be spooked. "Did I just found a big floating heart? In a cave? And it's BEATING???"
The only moment where corruption wins over crimson is that EoW looks and feels scarier than BoC
Aaron Allen
I've been playing this game since it came out and I've never even been close to being spooked by anything in this game. Sounds like you're just a pussy.

Texture pack that upscales everything 2x and then "smooths" everything. Basically one of those "HD" packs that looks like a filter used on a SNES emulator. I used it for a while but kept forgetting to disable it.

How to run Terraria at higher framerates on a shitty PC/laptop: >Fullscreen Windowed mode means Windows has to display everything else as well as the game, which can cause slowdown. >Turn resolution down 1024x768 isn't that bad, I've played it on 800x600 just fine >Use Retro or Trippy lighting Blockier but faster lighting >Turn off Effects and Backgrounds No hazy effect for Underworld, waves in water, and backgrounds can cause slowdown on your inventory and menus >Frame Skip On Slow motion mode if this isn't on, better to have it either on or on Subtle for toasters/potatoes. >Open Task Manager and change Terraria's priority to High. Makes your computer focus more on providing resources for the game than on other programs. >Close other programs that eat up resources that your PC doesn't need Close internet browsers, leave Discord calls, stop watching porn on another screen, etc. Make sure not to close anything important or integral for your system.
>copypasta please
I run this game on laptop with 2.1ghz dual core integrated, 3gb RAM, 256mb video memory, with two 1080p monitors hooked up due to a dead screen. Runs 30-60fps just fine with those settings.
Jordan Young
On another note, be careful with effect-heavy mods, especially Calamity's gear and Fargo's Essence Accessories.

we need a new server
Asher Carter
That actually looks pretty nice, but if it's splash screen stuff, that's bad; we'll only see it when starting the game, and the splash screen doesn't even last that long.
Henry Jones
The background will be one of many that can be picked when generating a Crimson World, anyway. What I'm wondering is what the fuck do those skeletons belong to and if we'll ever see anything out of it from Otherworld or 2.

the mod is indeed shit and plainly incorrect on many points (particularly tooltips), but this one is correct. wyverns drop that shit.
suggestion: get fargos mod if you don't have it already, and make the battle cry/spawn booster item (needs a shitload of battle potions and water candles). the 10x spawn rate makes it a lot easier to farm some of that shit.
Wyatt Thompson
>tfw you get the bee mount on your second fight with the queen bee

>finally have Yharon on farm >working on Auric Tesla set, all that's left is Darksun Fragments >need 135 One Hundred and Thirty Five 135 >lucky if I get 5 per solar eclipse >can't afk farm it anymore
This is the true autism.
Isaiah Carter
Yay... 8 that time.
Also, not as bad once I put banners up. Still not sure if afkable. Fuck those flask throwing motherfuckers.

I was wrong, afk farming post-Yharon Solar Eclipse has been achieved. Still a shitty spawn rate on Mothron tho, this is some shit.
