How to practice drifting without buying a day at the track or getting arrested?

Find a pal with a lot of land, drift offload, but make sure to clean up your car after

Parking lots late at night (mild risk tho)

What car so you have op?

big empty remote parking lot late at night

roundabouts

I have shitty tires so I drift in the rain wether I want to or not. It's kinda fun desu but it gets dicey at high speed

I won't drift with my present car, an automatic civic... I plan to buy a car to drift with in the future though. Probably an RX-7 or some other rear-wheel drive

>3 0 0meters this ahead

Empty parking lot a night, cops usually just tell you to keave and make threats

If you can’t afford track days, you probably can’t afford to driftvillegally.

This, literally yesterday I was drifting a parking lot, ripping second gear, cop rolls in while there's tons of smoke in the air, checks my license (clean) and tells me to fuck off

I also have an automatic Civic(04coupe) I took it out in the snowfall to see if i could slide around some corners. It's a fun feeling to be in control of a sliding car. I'm looking at a few cars on craigslist that are RWD but I will probably wait to buy one in the summer.

It's not because I can't afford them, it's because there are no really suitable "drift" tracks near me. I'm in a place that doesn't really care much about cars, except nascar, mustangs and lamborghinis (not america).

Just make sure theres no cops around. Thats what i do. Then when your at the track you already know what to do.

I love my Civic! Yesterday I went for skids innasnow and I had a lot of fun, which is why I want to buy a manual RWD. Thing is, there are no cool cars near me. All RX-7s are overpriced or WIP, and since I don't have much mechanical know-how, I'm not really confident to buy one yet

Bmw's and Miata's sell for just under 2,000 USD near me, and i'm looking into a miata for a summer beater

>you need rwd to drift

If its gonna be a drift car get a bmw(e36 im guessing) because it has a longer wheelbase which is better for doriftos

>he thinks his handbrake skiddies are drifts

>:( I don't think i'm "drifting" I'm just trying to have fun in the snow and talk to a fellow broke boi about it. Stop being negative i'm trying to build a friendly and helpful community

The cops may not be the biggest threat, but whoever owns that lot might want to sue your shit. Make sure there's no cameras.

is it plausible for a beginner to change transmission from automatic to manual?

no. dont bother just buy a manual car. Trying to change is a pain in the ads and not worth the money

fuck no. thats a big job.

I'd only swap a transmssion if 1. there are hundreds of write ups on the net for it. 2. manual transmissions are cheap for the car.
3. you have friends that know the car well enough.

luckily there is only one car that checks all those boxes (for me) the nissan 240sx. V hard to find a clean/not beat to shit one that is manual. Automatic on the other hand, you can find clean versions of those all day here in the states

Not Op but question, I own a Auto slapstick G37 can you really drift it effectively? Plus do you need a 50/50 weight Distribution and can you drift heavy cars like 4000lbs?

yes, just go around any corner let off the gas as you begin to turn then slam the pedal, easy skidz. No you dont need 50/50 distribution, and you can drift anything if you try hard enough

Learn to do it in a simulator to get the basics down

>I own a Auto slapstick G37 can you really drift it effectively?

You can probably do donuts, but actually drift like on a track? It'll be very hard. plus its not good for the transmission nor it is a good way to learn how to drift.

>Plus do you need a 50/50 weight Distribution

No.

>and can you drift heavy cars like 4000lbs?

yeah, pic related weighs 3700lbs. (but also has a 5 speed swap)

>handbrake is the only way to skid in automatic fwd
>doesn't know what drifting actually is

>have RWD
>have a lot of HP or just really shitty rear tires
>get into a turning lane
>light turns green
>smash the gas
>turn
>shitty rear tires spinning out while you slowly go through the turn
Boom now your drifting

Put electric tape over your licence plate and practice in a parking lot far away from other buildings. Make sure that if you get caught, either be really courteous to the officers, or have a good escape route planned.
Just my personal advice.

Protip for other FWD br/o/s

buy a skateboard deck and cut/snap it in half.
park rear wheels on the deck pieces
pull parking brake as hard as possible
floor it and enjoy the next 5 to 10 minutes of sick skids
