Same way you memorise any other map, ignore 90% of it and just figure out where the major landmarks are, you can also split the city into districts (shitty ghetto, industrial, that awkward spot behind the bank etc) if you're feeling fancy.
It's mostly based on a grid so it isn't that complicated when you're on the ground and the minimap is always there if you're unsure.
