Christmas doesn't actually have gold tier mats like Reverse Scales or Chaos Talons, so the best time to farm them is still Nerofest. Not to mention we still have Dango/Halloween/GUDA event before christmas, so lots of opportunity to hoard apples.

anyway you get the opportunity to roll these lotteries indefinitely for a week, with the requirements being christmas socks, mats which drops ALOT from the last stage of the event. It's undisputably considered the best farming event that ever happened in JP that they had to nerf it for the second rerun.
