Massive mudding

>massive mudding
>full sized barge on stock tires
no

So I found a 1991 4Runner with 300,000 miles but the engine has 15k for $2000..should I do it?

How well do the transmissions hold up?

2nd gens are annoying but mechanically sound vehicles. trans are very reliable up to 500k but if it breaks on you, you can do a tranny swap for very cheap.
the transmission swaps are sometimes cheaper than the rebuilds.

27 years stronk

the grill is like a smol land cruiser uwu

what is this, user?

I'm so ready to go this winter, got my hard top on and wired up. Gears been checked over and stowed in back in preperation.

>TFW theres barely a dusting of snow in town
>Half hour out of town is beset by snow squalls and white out conditions
>Town an hour away is expect nearly a foot by tomorrow morning with more on the way

Lifes just not fair sometimes fellas.

jamie?

No no senor, no jamie here

>dat petrol canada
where are you located fammo and build specifics pls

tfw I wanna go off roading right now but I can't because it's 1am and if I back out of my drive way the tires squeal like hell because of the welded diff and I don't wanna be a dick and wake everybody up

Fuck.

oh you're still alive
why did you weld your diff wtf

best first 4x4 to get into offroading/overlanding? first generation 4runner? 4.0 jeep cherokee? i kinda want a scout, but i dont need another vehicle thats hard to get parts for..

>why did you weld your diff wtf
tired of not being able to climb hills and diffing out

scouts are very aesthetic. but uncomfortable, bad gas mileage, rustbuckets, and as you said - hard to find parts for if you don't know people
first generation 4runners are the exact same

if you can find a cheap 3rd gen, do that. otherwise, a jeep cherokee is a good bet

e locker or detroit / lunchbox?

>e locker or detroit / lunchbox?
fuck that waste of money, welding is free and effective

Southwestern Ontario.. Nothing too fancy going on with the lil girl.

4.56 Nitro gears going in soon

wat. where do you winter wheel? I have to go up to nippissing if i want to overland in winter.

also, nice.are those only 35s?

until you can't take them out or destroy your tyres

Tires are cheap, you can pick up 31x10.5/15 all day long on craigslist and offerup for like 20 bucks each lol

No where to wheel around here. Legally anyways, I have to make the 4+ hour drive up north to the Kawartha lakes/bracebridge/minden area. Camped at Southwind back in August and ran the trails there at night, it was fun. Planning on going back there in the new year for some winter wheeling. Apparently it gets really nutty in the back trails.

>also, nice.are those only 35s?
Thanks. Yeah they work out to be a "small" 35. Measures out to 34.6"

Pigeons > Crows

yeah they're 70s but should be good enough. even my ranger has 75s on them, lol. you can easily fit 37s if you tried but i guess if you're going all the way up to south wind, there's no real point since highway fuel mileage would suuuuuck

drop a line if you're going there in winter and i'll follow suit. i'm around the area there every 2-4 weeks either on delivery (offroad farms) or just for the heck of it. it's really fun and you can camp / shoot further in the back. winter is great becaus there are no stupid mosquitos.

back trails are more calm in the winter, though so you should be fine. you might be able to climb those double black diamonds with your jeep (even on 35s)

>first generation 4runners are the exact same
bummer. i really like those things

first gen 4runner is just a toyota pickup with a removable top on the back????
Parts for those are everywhere

cool, i love those things. if i were looking for a cherokee, what years should i be looking at?

They'll be easier af to fix. But interior and other parts are annoying.

22re is also really underpowered but works if you don't mind bad mpg

You'll want one that's fuel injected, fuck carbs.
I think anything from like 88 or 89 up is fuel injected but I'm not sure.

>you can easily fit 37s if you tried
Probably going to upgrade to 37s in the new year after I get the gears in. I could theoretically stuff 40s in there and still run half ass decent but I'd have to extend the bumpstops for sure hah. I'll post up again when I set up the cabin rentals, 'camp' in luxury this time. I really like the way how Ray has set up the back cabins right off the trail. I can't wait to try em out.

Is my oil pressure ok?
1994 suburban 5.7. This is highway.

Idle

>stretching /org/ to the max

yes

That feel when you find the perfect 4runner with a manual but that person is out of town and you go out of state right when they get back

>tfw too cold for heavy snowfall
-19F for americans

So make a deposit or get any friend to buy it? This is a simple problem.
Post icefishing adventures

I kinda need a vehicle as soon as i can. just sold my car and dont feel like riding my bike in 25F weather all the time

Nibba if it's a "perfect 4skin with manuel", you'll make those sacrifices.

i wasnt calling the exact one perfect i was saying how the 4runner with a manual is perfect

>not keeping your car until you buy a replacement

tay yoda transmissions are kinda easy to swap. those older FJ40 transmissions are something stupid like $500 and you can do a simple bolt on and swap yourself if you have the jack for it. if anything, the plates would cost like $300-500 and you can do an easy replacement. you won't need to buy plate since mating to a 22RE is easy af.

t. ay yoda 1.9 TDI swap soon

So the Jimny is basically the greatest offroader, right?

2016 4Runner

I got a 85 4runner does anyone know a hitch that will fit? I just fucked the rear bumper trailing and I figure i can cut a hole for a hitch now

It depends what you call an offroader. Jimny and samurais are getting into really small territory which start to match up with street legal UTVs. It's impossible to compare a Jimny with a full sized SUV much like it's unfair to compare Jimny to ATVs.

Why cut a hole? Just bolt it on the frame and put a 7k hitch onto it like normal people.

I want to try keeping it up higher all the ones a fine would be to low

Lift the truck!

I think you can also install the trailer hitch upside down if you cut a hole in the rear bumper

Its lifted with 37's I just like having it higher so
So it doesn't get in the way when going
over rocks and hills
I have the tools to fab one just want to see if i can find instead

How dare you ask for help for a first gen 4runner without posting pictures of it!?

I only got a pic of the front when i fucked it going in a hole

just build one from scratch with 2'x6" 1/4" wall tubing and use some 4" channel for mounts and 3/8" plate for gussets then cut a hole in the center and get a weld in receiver

happy birthday tay

How easy is it to stud and unstud 265/75 duratrac winter tyres? Is it worth it or should I just chain the rear to make it easier?

Finally got a bit of the white stuff here! Took the ol lady hooning at the local spot for a bit then sat and watched everyone else till the cops showed up and shut everybody down. All in all, not a bad night.

The tools to install are over $500 but removal is super cheap (3/16 socket driver) Its not worth it if you value your time and sanity

Also you shouldn't restud a tire that has measurable treadwear unless you buy undersized studs to match. they are designed to wear at the same rate as the tire.

If they are only your winter tires I would stud them and take them off for the other 3 seasons

If you plan to use them year-round I would not stud. Its actually illegal to run studs between April and October where I live

Hmm I wonder if I can only chain my rears and get away with that. Just looked at front and there's no way I can fit chains under those without it wrecking my vehicle

Finally got a bit of the white stuff here! Took the ol lady hooning for a bit then parked er and watched everyone else til the cops came and shut us all down. All in all, not a bad night.

Comfy

How do you like the Grabbers in the snow? I'm looking to replace my BFG KOs with either KO2 or GGAT2,
Wasn't very impressed by how fast the bfgs wore out,

>ninja delete/edit/repost fail
They are pretty decent. They replaced the factory KO2 that came on the Jeep which are about the same for purpose of comparison. I don't have any issues driving in snow other then the fact my tires are so wide I float on slushy parts.

Thats kinda surprising, buddy had a set of KOs last 90,000km on his truck. The KO2s are much better then their predecessor though.

You obviously haven't ever done it...because yes

im considering picking up a truck and would like /org/s oppinion
second generation chevy silverado 1500 2007-2013
regular cab short bed ( maybe long bed still undecided)
v8 ( i thought they had an option to come with a 350, But it looks like they only come with a 4.8 5.3, 6.0 and 6.2)
4wd
would grab some cheap ish lockers for it
might do a small (

wanna buy my set of 285, 75, 16 KO2s off my land cruiser in ontario?
most of those jeep guys here suggest MT kevlars but i'd go duratrac just for the road comfort

also another one for KO lifespans. 50k km on AWD land cruiser and he only took them off because he got a new set of 38 inch michelins

I have about 40,000 km on mine and they still have half tread but perform like absolute trash in any weather. They're right at the point where they still look good though... perfect time to sell

I just bought 6 duratracs and 6 M55s the other day

I'm sure you could make my tires last another 40,000 if you only drove them on clean pavement and didn't mind the odd bit of hydroplaning,

Here is one I saw locally that really impressed me with how well the KO takes abuse

I'll trade you money + KO2 for those duratracs depending on the size.

>Dat wear
>Jesus take the wheel

The GGAT2 are pretty durable as well, I got a good gash in the sidewall that hasn't even affected the integrity of the tire. Getting them all replaced in the new year though hopefully. Probably sell them for a few hundos since they've barely worn down after 40,000km

Best little truck but here in Texas beaners destroyed all of these by turning them into mini trucks with bad paint.

>...last another 40,000...
>soon on the next episode of /r/justrolledintotheshop

Probably too small for you, 235/85r16. Also I'm on Vancouver Island so shipping would be a bitch.
Duratracs go on sale at Canadian Tire pretty regularly, I was originally quoted $2050 so I waited 3 weeks and paid $1610

>half tread
Mine have half tread and even wear, I posted that pic of someone else's tire to show how durable it can be. That wear was the result of him using his tie rod as a recovery point and driving for 4 months with the bent rod

So ORG, My daily commuter was totaled, and I've got a check for 5k. I want a car for daily commuting, and /k/ inawoodsing. I was looking at xterras and old tacomas, any recommendations?

Xterras are cool depending on the year.

Most of us actually DO use our trucks

What years are bad, what are good, what is the newest or lowest mileage one I could get for 5000?

anyone know any roads in south florida where i can beat the shit out of my fwd shitbox

I dobt know shit about them other than how they look. Some years it looks like the model got bloated.

Join any local club though florida might be a bit too crowded to have legitimate trail systems

Thoughts on a 2004 GMC Envoy as a med-duty trail/winter hooning rig?
It’s got the i6 Atlas engine, runs great and has a freshly rebuilt tranny.
Guy wants $1900 since it needs a new rear driver-side door and has a leaky exhaust. 130k miles but suspension and steering was tight.

How is the electronic-selectable 4x4? Does it function reliably?

Should work fine, as long as it drives well that's a good deal.

Pic unrelated?

Quote unrelated?

Fuck, I thought the lugs were closer together on the Duratrac... that is good news

I am so getting a set of 35 inch Duratracs with extra siping and semi-trailer studs next winter

are you studding them?
i could chain them but taynger's front rubs at full turn to sufficiently chain. and rear might need an extra leaf because i can chain AND put in load in the bed

should chaining rear be fine?
