Rx7/Rotary Thread

ITT: What Gen Rx7 is your favourite and why is it the FC?

>Rx7
great start, OP

Because the FC a best.
>I'll get another one Soon™

>*breathes in*
wrong

>not loving every RX7

>bought tarbo'd FC for $850
>have to replace janky ass nigger rigged battery cables and 100 amp fuse before i can even do a compression test
>OMP also has a 99% chance of being shot
This fucking thing has 86k miles on it as well. Hold me Veeky Forums.

you lucky nigger

I'll be lucky if it only needs apex seals. God help me if i need a full rebuild.

you should do a full rebuild anyways, I wouldn't trust an $850 turbo'd FC to have a fully working motor.

Where should i go to for a full kit? There's a few sites online but I'm not exactly sure which i should go for.

FD > FC all day every day

Source on image? They may not be my favorite cars, but Jesus that photography and scenery is unlike anything I've seen.

scale model?

I'd recommend Atkins Rotary, they sell full rebuild kits and all sorts of useful rotary related parts.

Racing Beat is also another great alternative too, can't go wrong with either to be honest.

A friend of mine took it. My old FD and another friend’s old R32 GTS4

This picture is shit

what

he's autistic. he was having an episode over it being typed with a lowercase 'x'

OP here,
forgot to ask, I'm think about getting an aftermarket spoiler on my 90 turbo II, any recommendations? re

mazda put a dash in the name too
respect it

RX-7 RX-7 RX-7 RX-7 RX-7 RX-7 RX-7 RX-7

FD

FD=FC>FB>>rx8

pretty much

rx-8 had the best NA engine, tho

>best
best as in power and emissions sure, but I don't think so in terms of reliability

Pic related had neighbor with RX8

op post car so we can jerk off

FD > FB > FC

enjoy

another

Damn that's clean as fuck. I really wish there were more FC's in that condition.

Also keep the stock spoiler, most of the aftermarket ones look like aids anyways.

first gen, worst gen tho

Is that an FC in my driveway

Lemme get closer
Yep sure is

Oh no what’s that

Oh fuuuuuuuuuu

@18354310
FUAD

nute

based solely on looks. obviously the FC is the better car, but it's just not quite as attractive as the FB.

don't get me wrong, i like the FB a lot, too
it's crazy how light they were able to make them

the steering and how they built the rear drive is off putting, though

FC= Fuck Ya
Dorito= Ehhh, not so much.

Rotard checking in, working on tearing down my extra 13b when I get home, will post pics.

Can someone explain the meme behind the rx8? Is it really a shit car or is it just not as good as the rx7?

why don't you use google and see for yourself

goos car, good chassis, engine has problems.

I've saved about 15k to get a proper sports car, and I'm interested in a dorito. But I also want to wrench on it myself as much as possible. Will I need a specialist mechanic for these or can I DIY? Is it possible to rebuild/replace seals at home?

i personally haven't had to with my car yet, but from what I've heard if you are decently mechanically inclined then theres no reason you cant. theres a lot of youtube tutorials and shit online.Besides, rebuilding a dorito is significantly more simple than a Piston engine

Fb all the way

Heres mine

looking forward to it

yeah desu, I probably will end up keeping the spoiler, same as the stock turbo, appeals to my patrician taste

This
I love my FB racecar but I want a nice clean FC/FD too

Rotary engine sucks and so does Rx7

Looking into FB's for two reasons.
-Dorito
-Looks gud

Does it have to be relegated to a second car though? I can't imagine DD a car that backfires and could blow a seal, leaving you stranded somewhere.

It's not impossible to daily drive, N/A rotaries are pretty reliable given you stay on top of maintenance.

Not uncommon to see 12A and 13B's still kicking around 180-200K miles without a rebuild.

Euro FC is good as well.
>48/52 weight distribution
>950-1100 kg weight
>2L-2,5L optional turbo
>burns less oil
>does not rust at all

Good car, good chassis. Later engines aren't as bad as people usually make them out to be. No turbo models. Not exactly a lot of power. Most have been ruined by normies that don't know how to care for a rotary

In order to replace apex seals, the entire engine has to be pulled apart just as if a full rebuild was being done. Replacing apex seals and reusing everything else is an absolutely half-done fix, you might as well just duct tape the engine back together instead of replacing the rubber seals at that point. Apex seals are a meme to begin with, a rotary engine that is taken care of shouldn't need rebuilds any more often than a regular sports car engine.

It's cool no doubt, but the FC RX-7 aged far better.

That is because the 924 is older than the FC.

Mostly just cleaned the motor up tonight, I am getting a propane canister tomorrow so hopefully I can heat up my stuck bolt.

Doritos are far simpler than reciprocating engines, they are just far less common. Wrenching at home is easy for the most part, you need very few special tools.

Nice user, good luck to you. Currently disconnecting mine for a rebuild. First time, praying I make it out with minimum fuck-ups

i daily turbo and im fine lol

let me tell you THIS much

good luck user, I'm going to try the next rebuild myself

Is there anyone else here who doesn't have a 7 or an 8?

Seems from all the rota threads I've read over several months, I am the only one.

>my 78 Bugeye in front of my old man's Katana

Also, I'll organise making a general.

OP here, heavily admiring that bugeye, protect it with your life

Nice fb, clean as fuck

Honestly the renesis engine has great power for a NA 2 rotor. But the fact that a forced injection model wasn't offered and that because it didn't sell well there isn't much aftermarket it for it, it falls completely flat.

God speed user.

>An mx-5 with a dorito
Would you buy it?

If the swap isn't nigger rigged then yes. Double wish bone and a light chassis with a rotary would be great.

>yfw the rx-9 is a rotary powered miata

None cos I refuse to like a car that came with an engine that needs to be rebuilt every 400 miles

>it's a rotary powered miata coupe
>a hybrid peripheral ported rotary powered miata coupe
>17K redline
>the electric motor is just there to provide more power to the rear
>a shitload more
>it cannot be dynoed by existing technology
>0-60 in 0.9s
>BRAAP

so i hear that if you rebuild a rotary incorrectly, one of the bearings might not seat properly and spin (iirc, a bearing located under the front cover?)

how do you make sure you seat that bearing and not make it spin out of place?

Put the washers and spacers in the right order, you also have to be careful not to damage the bearing when removing it, it's very easy to damage it on the threads of the eshaft, putting tape around the threads reduces that risk.

>be me
>oh a new rotary thread
>just a group of faggots talking about one car that has 4 different versions and 4 different engines
>mfw these faggots live in a time where a Honda Civic could smoke their unreliable cars
>mfw you accidentally stay on one gear for longer than 3 seconds and your rx7 explodes
>mfw the rotary community is filled to the brim with retards

Enjoy your thread, rotards

fucking this rotary is so fucking gay and every faggot that likes them is more gayer

>rx7 is the only rotary

I mean it is you retard

except the mazda cosmo also came with a rotary

You should do some research before you say stupid shit you mongoloid faggot

dorito was a mistake

You know.. you could just stfu and lurk more if you don't know shit about shit

I fucking love the look of the RX8 but I'm really not sure if I want to invest into a car that might just end up costing me 5x the cost in problems anyways.

What do?

Buy an RX8 and swap in a conventional piston engine. A Nissan SR20DET or Honda K20/K24 would offer similar performance

either put up the extra cash for an example that's been rebuilt or purchase one with the intent of rebuilding the engine yourself.

just pull the renesis and get an older 13b

Well I'm mostly looking for a fun, lovely looking car for up to £5000, I can do more but would prefer to just keep it at 5k for now

forgot to quote

Insurance is also 1400 a year

Fibreglass 808 front ends look silly. Drag queens that can't help but crash good cars and kill all the rare parts should not be allowed to live.

I'm from the us so I'm not sure what's considered cheap in euroland. However here you'd be hard pressed to find an rx8 that doesn't need a rebuild for under 6k.

They're cheap as shit to live with
They drink quite a bit of gas, but they more than make up for it by being considered 1.3l
Cheap insurance, cheaprevisions and access to the city centre

the one I'm interested in buying is 2.6L, however I'd be using it for commuting as well, my job is only 4.1 miles away, and mostly on a dual carriageway where I can run it hard.

The actual displacement is 1.3l, but some companies consider it a 2.6 to make it more in line with their piston policies

Oh, that's a bit weird, I'm still new to cars, but I'm looking into a lot of stuff about the RX8, kind of sucks that such a nice looking car can have so many problems.

It really doesn't once you look into it
Rotaries are memed to fuck and back, but they ain't half bad if you know what you're doing
Anyone who thinks the renesis is finnicky or unreliable has never even smelled a 13brew

I love mine. First one was the white 84 GSL but it's an automatic chassis and some rust issues so I bought a clean stripped 85 GS with no rust and factory manual to swap everything into. What color should I go with? Thinking high gloss black.

Do you have a high res version?
