Generally yes. Witch hunters are WAY more useful on the campaign map though. Having a wizard is always good if the lord isn't one.

You have to seperate book Geralt from game Geralt. The author has said as popular as the series is, he considers it seperate from his books.

With that in mind, game Geralt 1v1'd Eredin and slew Cthulu. Book Geralt got stomped by Vilgefortz but Vilgefortz is a particularly powerful wizard.

I'd say WHFB power levels are a little higher than the Witcher but Geralt is still pretty damn strong.
