Lights are viable for the reasons heavies and assaults are not. Lights are made for GOING FAST, actively supporting the team (spotting, flanking, flagcapping, reinforcing a side, ambushing, etc), and/or ganking enemy lights/meds, heavies/assaults, or already crippled mechs. Lights are also very dangerous when operating in a group, and can quickly take down mechs much heavier than they are.
If the enemy devotes focus to you and you can't slip away quickly enough, you will die very quickly. But if you can avoid attention long enough, or they decide that you're less of a threat than your team mates, you can rip into them >mfw heavies and assaults ignore my Mist Lynx and let me plow their asses.

I own the Scorch and it just plain gets work done. It farms like a fucking champ. I was feeling down in the dumps about owning a Pakhet and a Warrant hero (huntsman & timberwolf) until ATM's landed. I use the stock 8/8 on the Pakhet with 3 medium pulse, 2 ATM 9's. The Warrant has 6 medium pulse, 2 ATM 6's. Both do really well now as ATM's reward more mobile mechs for hanging tough in the 120-350 range envelope.
I think if a gun was put to my head and someone said "buy an IS hero" it would be either the Dragon Flame hero (280 LFE, AC 20, medium laser x4, ATM 10) or the Marauder Bounty Hunter hero.

Is a WHM-6R a good mech for general fuckery? Seems like a decent enough design, and has a spread of different slots so you can always play around with what you're rolling with.
Also thinking of getting an Urbs. R60 or R63? I figure R63's better because of the quirks unless you want to run 4xMG.
