What about this as another option?

miami.craigslist.org/mdc/cto/d/2006-ford-150-pk/6428681210.html

I'm no tradesman, but I kinda always wanted to have a pickup for the utility alone.

Looks nice minus the bumper.

Should be an easy fix, there's a salvage yard a few blocks from where I am.

Just my opinion, but I'd wait to find a good crew cab.

Insanely low miles could be just as bad as insanely high miles. Tires are probably dry rotted and fucked.

>It looks absolutely mint.

as far as cars go, OP, you can easily shine a turd with a little car wax, tire shine and a pressure washer for the engine bay

Looks like it was likely a work truck. Gotta hope it was operated by responsible drivers and that it was serviced well. Looks clean though and that's low miles, definitely worth a good hard look for that price.

Sure, it's a Liberty, but it's manual.

there's far better out there, both in terms of price and vehicle ;-)

How expensive? I'm an unemployed student with a shit ton of time but not a lot of money. All I want is a 4banger coupe/roadster that gets decent gas mileage and is fun in the twisties.

>inb4 miata

In the northeast you can choose between $5k MINT miatas and 1k slammed and destroyed track cars. Nothing in between.

I had the car that came out after this, a 2003 Kia Spectra but they had the same exact engine and many of the parts were interchangeable, more of a refresh than an entirely new model. The engine is probably the most anemic, gutless, soulless 4 banger I have ever owned. It didn't help that it was mated to the shittiest automatic transmission ever made. Also dash will peel up from sun exposure and the entire interior is cloth and hard, brittle plastics. That said it was fuel efficient, easy to fix and parts are cheap.

I'd rather buy a LR disco 1 and save the rest of the cash for the repairs.

the interior is a little ratty
youll have to get rid of that stupid fucking tint as well

Probably lots of rat shit on the shifter housing.

You have to pressure wash that interior.

Fuck, I didn't see the mercedes was automatic. Ignore.
Ideally I'd find an E30 at that price. Tell me about Supras

>Tell me about Supras
What do you want to know?

Are parts expensive/hard to find? Is it extremely easy to maintain? What is a good mileage to buy them at and when do you think an example like the one I linked would start to go?

Whats your budget? Are you looking for a specific generation?

Well I have $4000 right now and a good amount of that will go into the daily (unless I can daily this thing, lol). I'm not seriously considering a second car along with my first, but someday I'd like something late 80s/early 90s so I had to ask.

For the discussion's sake I'd want the newest generation that had pop-up headlights (so A70). Pretend my $4k all goes into the Supra, how fucked am I?

Can anyone help me find a shitbox for my brother? He wants it as a beater. Automatic. Budget is 3k-5k.
I keep telling him to get a used lexus for comfy but parts might be expensive.

craiglist.com/eby/

You could probably find a NA in decent condition for that money, they're reliable but they're dreadfully boring when NA, if you were to get one I woukd recommend only doing suspension mods and brakes, save up the rest for a 1JZ GTE VVTi and R154 swap

96-04 mustang

You know, in this theoretical situation I'd be fine with anything that has pop-up headlights and that general aesthetic, it doesn't necessarily have to be a Supra. People say RWD is better but with no frame of reference who cares.

Maybe even a Miata NA if I can get over the inherent danger. What do you think of this Prelude? jacksonville.craigslist.org/cto/d/rare-canadian-market-1989/6430481125.html

It's clean as fuck
Not really a fan of the B20 engine though, if I had it I would be swapping in an F20B into it
The 4WS system is mechanical, but the car is still light weight
I'm a fan of these teebeeaitch

Would it make a good daily?

Absolutely, handles well but don't expect barn storming performance, gets good mileage and as long as the timing belt and water pump have been replaced recently, might want to look into the condition of the distributor if you go and look at it or bring someone who knows what to look for

Isn't timing belt interval ≈100k, or does it change depending on the car?

Depends on the car but rule of the with Honda's is 100k

Any major things I'll have to do around the 150k mark with an old Prelude? Or will it run into the next timing belt granted I do proper amount of oil changes, etc? Sorry I don't know anything about maintenance

Be wary of the ignition, specifically the distributor

It's an interesting proposition. $2200 still seems a bit high, $1500 would be a for sure deal.
It's not fast or luxurious, but parts availability and prices are reasonable. I would suggest replacing the timing belt anyways, despite the low mileage.
> owned an 01 Elantra for 10+ years

I asked him when his timing belt and distributor were last replaced, awaiting an answer

Ok he doesn't know since he's only had it 4-5 months. Is that a bad sign?

Yes, check Carfax if you really want this thing, or whatever the Canadian equivalent is

The engine is interference so I wouldn't want to drive it with that fact being unknown obviously. If I immediately do a timing belt it'll throw my schedule off but will there be any other bad side effects (besides cost)? That will give me a fun little project off the bat that my budget allows

Since you said its an interference design, potentially valves could come into contact with the Pistons during the combustion cycle which will be an expensive fix
Either do it as soon as you get it or do a VIN check for peace of mind

Lol I live in Rochester that's my buddies car

minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/cto/d/88-toyota-celica-gts-2-door/6397257943.html bros.... I want it so bad

What's a VIN check? I have half a mind to text the guy and tell him to stop driving it, but that'd be rude since I haven't made an offer yet (he says in the ad he just took it on a 1200mi weekend camping trip)

Basically it's an online service where you provide the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the website (some charge), and they look up the service history of the vehicle so you can see what's been done or what needs to be done

miami.craigslist.org/brw/cto/d/2002-crown-victoria-obo/6403021007.html

Whaddaya think?

>automatic
Into the trash it goes.

So do I just ask the guy for a VIN number and he'll give it to me? And what if the previous owner did his own maintenance? I'd be fine just doing the timing belt immediately but you're right, this may save me some money

He should if he wants to make the sale, if he can't tell you what's been done then it's within your rights to know the maintenance history, if he doesn't give you the VIN (located on the dash, visible from the front driver side) then walk
