Latria? A tiny bit of backstory, but mostly the world feels like "wtf is going on here and why?" and there's no answer.
Shrine of Storms? Ancient burial grounds. That's literally the entire backstory.
Valley of Defilement? A saint helps hobos by sucking poison out of their swamp. The entire backstory.

It was about a new area, a massive opened up Iosefka's Clinic. Me, the Hunter, or my character or something, went in, it was a fairly large open area with some symbol on the ground in the middle. For some reason, when I went in a ways, Arianna invaded, I think she used the cane. When I killed her it switched to first person view the deeper into the corridors I went and I saw something at the end of a long corridor dissipate into a cloud of flying things - dunno if they were bats or crows, made me think of the Dishonored games for some reason.

Yahar'gul is my favourite area in the game by far. It oozes atmosphere. Research Hall is also amongst my favourite areas. I hate Byrgenwerth (such an enormous waste), Hemwick (wtf is it even supposed to be?) and Old Yharnam (fuck Djura)

They should have put the Celestial Emissary fight in Iosefka's Clinic and have you pick up Cainhurst Summons after the fight. This would me a massive improvement over the current design in many way:
1. Celestial Emissary is a more challenging fight at the level when you access the clinic. When you can access Upper Cathedral Ward it becomes laughably easy.
2. There's no reason to have two bosses back to back, especially when one is so much easier than the other.
3. Iosefka's Clinic is where the Celestial Emissaries are made, so having this fight take place there would be a better fit for the lore.
4. As of right now, you can just pick up Cainhurst summons and be on your merry way. It would make the progression more interesting if the letter was a reward for a boss fight.
