I haven't played since the beginning of the last addon but I want to start playing again. I think I have all jobs on at least level 50 except for the two new ones and dark knight / the gun guys. Are there any jobs that are barely played at all but still somewhat useful?

I'm a Paladin, /xivg/, and I got Goring Blade, and I'm not too far away from Royal Authority. As I understand it I should use the Riot Blade->Goring and then Riot Blade->Royal Authority instead of the Halone combo I have been using until now if I have good aggro, right? I haven't gotten Requiescat and Holy Spirit yet, because I'm level 55, but I intend to hit 60 before the end of the week.

Their AF3 gear is hideous unless you like the reference. They're still somewhat turret-like but with Enochian changes, Umbral Hearts and yoyo-ing between people and Ley Lines with Aetherial Manipulation and Between the Lines, the class is definitely more interesting and less "I dropped Enochian and I want to die"

the basic combo becomes something like flash twice when you engage a mob and then spread goring blade around. royal authority afterwards. the name of the game is reducing the amount of times you have to use halone because the potency difference between halone and RA/Goring is m a s s i v e.

Yeah. Assuming an average pug group versus a boss, you want to do a Halone combo or two, swap to Sword Oath if you're comfortable on both the aggro lead and defence, then use Goring Blade into two Authority combos and repeat. Before 60 it's also better to just straight up use Goring over and over if the only thing you care about is damage single-target compared to Halone.

Are summoners no good right now? I remember them being one of the least played classes overall.

SMN was generally better than BLM in HW because of sheer mobility and a large number of add fights but both sat out of HW's meta due to the large number of physical debuffs and the utility a lot of them brought.
They're the worst caster this patch since their utility and mobility got outclassed by RDM, their DPS got severely outclassed by BLM and you could argue that getting Between the Lines also made BLM better in mobility. On top of that Demi-Bahamut is just a polished turd that blocks vision of mechanics and does not compensate at all for everything SMN lost.
So right now SMN is around the same DPS as RDM in turret/low mechanical requirement fights, trailing behind in more movement-heavy fights without having RDM's utility and trails VERY far behind a skilled BLM.

What if Summoners gained the ability to invoke a primal and temporally transform into them?

I mean the artifact armor. I don't know why but I really liked the horn. I think the second one they got was like white with some green mixed in, it looked really great. I played scholar at that time so I was jealous of all the other classes. Things like astrologe also looked great. The scholar gloves were ABAP though.

That's basically already what they're doing unless you want them to be doing some Druid transformations or something.

Savage has really made me a bitter cunt about this game. I can flawlessly clear 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 every time without question (because it's literally memorization with slight variables), but no matter what there's always at least 3 shitters on my team that ruin it for the rest of us. I had about 800 hours in the game before Savage dropped, any time my team was having difficulty with a raid I would remain friendly and try and help them out. Now I just leave after the 2nd wipe without saying anything. I don't even have ACT installed, I feel like if I do that'll be the final nail in the coffin for me, actually being able to see my SAM pull 2.8k dps would destroy any desire I have left to play this game.

I've seen the suggestion that SMN should just summon a primal for one really strong attack occasionally. You know, like how Summoners worked in basically every FF game except maybe FFXII.

It really is, it is a good post and I laughed while reading it but I have nothing to add to it.
