More and more radar detector detectors are used, so don't go with anything cheap as it will have ton of emissions and will be detected.

In some countries they are legal and even encouraged.
That way in place of having numerous police squads and expensive traffic cameras they just put up 5$ 10Ghz transmiter in radar box and cars slow down.
But that happens only where they actually care about road safety and not fining people.
