first for tangledeep

Not sure why the last thread was archived so early. Anyway, things are going well. Ran into a horde of white louse that seemed to infinitely spawn on L4, just walked away from them. Smeagol probably had good loot, but it wasn't worth the louse issue.

Not played a lot of *bands before? Breeders never stop.

I just hit level 10 with my TbBk and used Blood Spray to clear my way out of a room that I hatched into from a lower floor. It was pretty scary there for a bit. And no, this is my first *band. Any tips?

Don't be afraid to walk away, but it sounds like you've got that under control.
It's generally a good idea to shut doors on breeders so they can't overflow into the rest of the floor.
Don't get too greedy with your diving. If you're not confident you can handle a floor, get out of there.

>TbBk

Yes user, I'm a shitter who picks Tonberry Bloodknight because I'm too low INT to play other things. Plus it's practically my first time, aside from 6 other splats I've had on this build in the past few days.

Tonberry blood knight is only good by virtue of being a Tonberry and even if you are trying to use crawl abbreviations for class names in PCB it should be TbBK.

>Not sure why the last thread was archived so early
nobody was posting and it fell off page 10
> just walked away from them
ebin roguelike skills paying off
normally the *band newbies run into an infinitely-reproducing back of breeders and just try to tab them until they die

hello stop dying while i am asleep please

hello stop sleeping when you should be bumping threads instead please

If I build an isometric roguelike and I make a patreon can I get you nerds to support me or will I starve to death?

I tried doing that at first by getting into a corridor and tabbing, but after 50 or so I figured they were just infinite. At least it was okay XP.

Someone recommended it to me a thread or two ago, so I decided to try it out. It seems fun so far, no idea what it can do later.

Enjoy starvation, user!~ But we'll at least have to hear about what kind of roguelike you're making before we decide to support it or not.

Well my -2 speed earth elemental just beat up a +10 speed Eol who outdamaged me by a factor of 3. Without access to any potions or healing.

Turns out wallwalking is really scummy. I regenerate faster than him so I would just hit him until I was at ~75% hp, then retreat into solid stone, rest to full hp again, and come out to punch him some more.

The speed is a real pain though. My -1 intrinsic speed was 'upgraded' to -2 when I hit 25 and evolved from "earth spirit" into "earth elemental". And of course I can't use potions of speed because they're potions. At least I got 3 more str and con out of the deal.

What the hell is a Tonberry?

According to the PCB github, "Tonberries are lizard-like creatures who possess enormous strength and have a preference for cleavers and large knives. They are, however, sluggish in their movements and reactions; young and inexperienced tonberries are often preyed on by the other races. They possess human-like intelligence, but rarely become mages due to their culture and physiology. Tonberries attack very powerfully in melee, albeit with fewer attacks than normal. They are also easily confused and move with reduced speed." Races.txt was found here: github.com/poschengband/poschengband/blob/master/lib/help/Races.txt

Anyway, they're pretty strong in PCB as far as I know. Also pretty cute.

forgot to mention what they actually ARE:
a monster from Final Fantasy

I searched for tonberries on google images and this is the first image that appeared

That's pretty accurate to what they do, user. Big damage, relatively low amount of hits.

FF Monster. They're slow, but they generally kill anyone they hit instantly.

that's just google adapting search results to what it knows you want to see

...

Any other classes/races I should try in PCB?

dragons for rule of cool, demigods for a feeling of what balanced races plays like, then win a scout and a blue mage to ensure that every class has been won on the PCB ladder

What roguelike has the most fun magic system?

Weaponmaster specialising in daggers is apparently pretty fun. Mauler is definitely fun.

You should play an Android race sometime too.

>A clay statue of a deep puddle
how exactly do you think statues work, PCB

>search through a grocery store
>find some good supplies, about to leave
>notice something inside of a plant pot
>find pic related

Just downloaded the game.
Pick Rogue, because it's the best game ever.
Trying out stuff. Blowed myself with molotov just to make sure if it oneshots. It doesn't.
After that waited on the first level to see how much my insanity increases. It's just 5% LUL
Third level. See some pylon. Activate it. Deactivate it. Activate it and walk around it. >AAAARGH IT BURNS!!!
Come down to the lever through the flames and deactivate it. 3hp left. I'm burning. Try to use medbag. It doesn't heal. Try to use smoke grenade for whatever reason.
>Not while burning.
1 hp left.
Now to use a dynamite or a rod of cloud minds?
No time for a dynamite. Rod is the only option left.
>The flames are put out.
Rogue is the best class obviously.
But seriously, what a joke game! Couldnt even kill myself on the first 3 levels.
Difficulty increase when?

Alright, that 5% insanity side effect is a bit of nuissance. Can't fight in melee with it. However, i can shoot in melee range, LOL. Why is this allowed?
Also it seems that their guts are either afraid of light or move a little bit erratically.
Also, that reanimated dead was changing its direction while i was shooting at it. It seems that it's not completely braindead, though it didn't try to dodge my dynamite.

Magicka roguelike when?

and it rised again.
i do not know why, but that scared me a little in real life. wtf?

Pretty much all monsters in IA move erratically.

>Try to use smoke grenade for whatever reason.
>Not while burning.
The fact that holding a smoke with a gas mask on breaks the mask quickly still upsets me. Especially when I walked right into a fucking brown bird nigger who pecked my eyes out

How can I consistently get passed the wolves on the surface in IA?

change the option to skip that level

Daily reminder that if you can't win Tales of Maj'Eyal on at least Insane Roguelike you don't belong here.

>casket slows me
>ghost drains all my spirit as I fail to run away
Lol IADev. Just lol.

I guess he was right.

You suck!

No, the ghost quite literally sucked.

fuck it, Buki has more life than this general. D E D

Not if my amulet of life saving has anything to say about it!

Can I do a pacifist in IA?

A bright light shines around me.

literally shitting my pants here

Which one of the like 4 Poschengband forks is the most up to date + with conveniences added?

AKTIVER

...

is it starting weapon you have?

That Lancelot+Gawain+knight pack just wrecked the furthest char I've ever had. I can't kill even a single one of them no matter how much I reroll the whole encounter via teleporting away until I just got two turned by some silly spoilery mechanic that I still can't comprehend

no, it's a +5 one I found

Dont bother with Camelot desu, too dangerous, unless you are super tanky or got antitele

d-did you got past those creepy fuckers? it looks like they don't notice you.

I'm so fucking nervous. The last enemy I killed was a rat on floor 20. Just walking past everything and praying...

NO! I MUST KILL EVERYTHING

I think I can kill a part of its knight pack via lure+killholes and I didn't do this. I'm also playing a Ninja so I basically have the leisure of teleporting away for unlimited number of times. Does Lancelot hit hard 1v1?

coooooooooooooooool, you can do that because of your perks? told them that rogue is the best class

you can do this! you can do this! you can do this!

madman

I'd like some stairs now (p-please...)

Lancelot hit pretty hard iirc, he also makes you bleed, I think he terrifies too but dont remember, and killing the knight pack is useless because he will summon more, unless you meant the other unique knights

That thing in the dark is called Hunting Horror (Level 24 and deeper) and moves very swiftly. That's why I wasn't too keen on checking back here again.

Sooo Im on Dlevel 3 in IA, and there's a pack of deep ones. It says they are native to 6, and they are blocking my path, should I use dynamite or molotov? No idea how much damage each does.

HOLY SHIT kill it with fire! kill it with fire!

but you have stairs right next to you!

This is what I get for actually attacking something

nooooo, why woud you do that?

If you have a spike gun or darkbolt then zuul is pretty manageable.

Potion of Invisibility was enough to shake Zuul.

So here I am. Popped almost all my unidentified potions to find SeeInvis. This guy shot me with 2 spells, the first one was blocked and the second one took most of my health and paralyzed me.

Not sure what I'm gonna do next.

If you have azawrath scrolls, dynamite, mayhem, smoke grenades, or an electric gun, now is the time to use them.

is zuul final boss or something? do you have to defeat him?

No, the high priest is the final boss, unless something has changed.

And that's the end of that story. I used 6 sticks of dynamite and my blaster across the duration of 2 smoke grenades, but it apparently wasn't enough.

>no combat traits

Do you have to kill him?

There was nothing else in the room, except constantly spawning monsters.

Yeah.

NICE GAME. CAN'T WIN WITH STEALTH BUILD. CAN DO IT IN ROGUE. CAN DO IT IN BROGUE. WHY MUST FIGHT HERE?

Dumb?

Alright, i will tell you how i see it. I'm also a complete noob in this game(8 hours total)
Compare Rogue and War veteran. early game: war veteran is clearly better than rogue. after that i have see a point where you just dodge monsters(but both of them can do that) so they are equal. And in the end there is an unavoidable fight, Once again war veteran > rogue. Obviously i'm dumb and incompetent but i don't see any point in stealth build (Rogue) here.

Anyone here ever hear of Demon? It's pretty dope, you guys should check it out, here's a link:

demon.ferretdev.org/

This is why you should diversify and not just get Imperceptible, Dextrous, Lithe, Silent, Electrically inclined etc. etc. as 6 or 7 of your final traits.
More spirit traits and magical skill or early treasure hunter into strong back seem like more viable options.

Of course pure stealth build can still win, but you need a lot of crap.

>that female tonberry
I see what you'd like to see user.

>Open gold tomb with a wand of opening
>Spend 2 dynamites on the mummy
>Get !rFire and a +2 Spiked Mace
Damn it.

Try smoke grenades, ghosts (and some animals) aren't very vindictive and won't pursue you if you break LoS.

If you don't want to disable the level entirely, my general strategy is to stay near the bottom of the level and walk behind the church. There's usually a gap in the wall there, leading you to the stairs.

There are some anons who play it, never tried it myself

It's pretty good, think of a cross between Shin Megami Tensei and....some other roguelike it compares too. I play it almost exclusively, you should check it out. Just recently had an update too

Herbie is slightly autistic developer who doesn't frequent Veeky Forums.

>cornered by Invisible Stalker and Dean Halsey on D11
>quaff !Spirit and cast Teleport
>end up literally (LITERALLY) three steps from where I was, still cornered
>confused, so I can't TP away again
>fuck, ok, one of my potions might be !Curing or !Fortitude
>AHA, FOUND CURING
>it didn't cure confusion
>find !Fortitude
>it *does* cures confusion
>I die
And I had both an Incinerator and electric gun. Damn it.

Feel free to dynamite them. Alone they aren't very threatening, but they can attack in melee and at range and deal decent damage which is nasty in a group. Save your molotovs for reanimated corpses.

I've been in the same situation as you. I threw everything I had at the bastard, including half a dozen sticks of dynamite, but it wasn't enough. I seriously wonder how much HP he has.

the what to play pastebin isn't available, wtf?

Doesn't matter to me, who cares?

I am slightly autistic.

First boss of Tangledeep is surprisingly hard, fucking adds that heal and try to kite you with ranged attacks while the boss chases you. I don't like that this game is gender locked but whatever.

What does that have to do with anything?

ADOM free version (ASCII):

There's no way to make the game bigger is there? The text is too tiny for my shitty eyes.

Can I run a mod idea past you guys? It seems to me like there's not really been much attention paid to the supernatural side of DDA, so I thought it might be a neat idea to do something involving that.

The basic idea I had was for the player to be able to learn to paint, tattoo or carve magical sigils onto/into their flesh, giving them activateable bonuses in exchange for making them hungrier/hallucinate/horrible agonizing pain. In return you'd be able to get all sorts of benefits, possibly stuff like temporary stat boosts or being able to eat rotten food/human meat, etcetera. Just whatever seems like a fun flavourful idea, really.

I was thinking about just crowbarring them in as bionics, but the more I think about it the more it seems like classifying them as mutations would work better. I'm sure a lot of what I'll wind up putting in there can be gotten elsewhere in the game already, but I like putting options and alternatives into things. Maybe you want to play your guy as some kind of bionic-hating witchdoctor, who knows.

So anyway, do you guys think it's worth taking a shot at making a mod like that? What sort of spooky supernatural powers would you want it to add, anyway?

>gender lock
A-at least it's just because the dev is a huge weeb and not a SJW, right?

Have you checked the mod with the magic stuff? Personally I dont want magical stuff in my apocalypse

should be

user deleted a letter he shouldn't've

Will the mode include a quest to GO NORTH?

But yes those sound pretty much like mutations. I'm still new to DDA so I won't suggest anything (I don't know what's balanced/realistic) though I'm interested.

uh, change your console's font size?
it just runs in the normal windows console right?
