Now I understand why normalfags want automated driving so badly.
They need it to be able to play with that tablet all the time.

...

>not counting the tablet
Disingenuous. There are two dozen more buttons showing just in that single screenshot

YOUR MINIMALISM IS WEAK

What the fuck is a waah waah knob?

And your point is? Unlike touchscreen, which can get dirty, unresponsive and slow, physical ones will work everytime with single click. Tesla is like PC desktop without shortcuts - beautiful but sacrifices way too much time and effort. BMW is like desktop with stuff you use regularly and it is important. Also touch buttons arent feel proof (?), so you have ti constantly look at screen to choose options step by step. Also, if screen somehow cracks - good luck replacing it and hooking to your car. And while its cracked none of options really work. For people who just cruise on Sunday evenings, Teslas cockpit is bearable, but if you dailying car, BMW is much easier to operate

Man that BMW looks like shit compared to the Tesla. Anyone against the design of the Tesla is just a luddite retard.

minimalism is a shit meme

Am I the only one that thinks tactile or physical switches exist for the sole reason that you can, by muscle memory, reach over, turn the heat on and keep your eyes on the road?

If you're using a mousewheel or a selector button to change the heat, or tune the radio, or set cruise, doesn't that INCREASE your time not looking at the road thus increasing chance of a collision?

Why does this shit matter? The BMW needs to be driven aggressively by its 3 inch dick driver so he can't look at the buttons he's pressing while flipping off the asshole he just cut off to get over the fact his girlfriend is fucking some nibba with a magnum dong and the wantrepreneur driving the Tesla just has it on autopilot so he can put some Hentai on the tablet and grab the lube on his way to work

You're absolutely correct. But try telling that to--
>the execs and board members who don't drive their own cars, but think it would be ~really neat~ if using their iPad in traffic were somehow legal
>the designers who were told to include infotainment in the design as part of their job
>the empty-headed tech junkies who happily take out high-interest loans for this shit by the thousands
If we are ever going to return to the era of manual user interfaces in cars (which I sadly doubt), it's not going to be for quite some time. This meme, it seems, just won't die.

the luddites were right all along though

Nah. I want it because I'm an alcoholic and I will literally never have a reason to stop drinking.

Modern adult life is already 90% sitting and staring at glowing screens, you'd think people would want at least a brief break from that during their commute.

Please don't drive drunk, user. I worry for you guys every time I hear something like this.

All those functions are condensed into a non tactile touch screen. The functions of those knobs don't magically disappear retard.

It's "waah, waah", knobs are scary.
As in somebody whining in "waah, waah".

IT'S OVER. Veeky Forums IS FINISHED. COMMENCING HARDCORE SMACK DOWN ON GASOLINE CARS.

...

I mean, I get it and why you want a car to be a car, and not a cluttered dashboard of knobs, buttons, switches and other shit because its a car and not the space shuttle. However when people start using a car as an appliance instead of a 2-6 ton missile

>normalfags want automated driving
A lot of normalfags think automated driving is skynet and is going to kill them because it can't blah blah trolley problem blah blah morality blah blah too complex.

Then why the hell are you on a board about motors?

>car doesn't have a thermostat
>have to manually adjust heat based on ambient temperature of the environment
If you can't set it to 72F and leave it there, or at least just change it once before driving and leave it alone for the trip, you may as well not have a cooling system at all. Just give the driver a fucking hand-fan.

>having 90 knobs in your interior is acceptable on Veeky Forums now
What happened to weight reduction?

The issue with the second one is that there is still too much bullshit. Your car doesn't need a damn 27" monitor for driving. Just remove it and learn to use voice activation or start overlaying the windshield with information so I don't have to stop looking at the streets.

...

I like cars. Classic ones, ironically enough.

500 knobs would not amount to half a lb, fuck off.

So you like things that luddites don't like, and you discuss them using a system luddites don't like, but you think luddites are right?

>top
>the shifter would have to fail to keep you from using the car
>bottom
>the touchscreen failing would make the entire car unusable and possible unserviceable without computer equipment

it has a column shifter retard

If you remove the shit the knob is attached to, you remove the knob, you fucking knob.

If your knobs weigh an average of 1 gram, it'd take less than 500 to make a pound. How much do your knobs weigh? The ones I use for casing my circuitry are metal and weigh about 10 grams, but yours might be plastic, so I could understand something lower.

>column shifter on an electric car

are you autistic? you still have to put it in D, P or R somehow

>the touch screen failing would make the entire car unusable
"being able to hotwire my car and use it without a key is a feature!"
>without computer equipment
How the hell are you on Veeky Forums if you don't have "computer equipment"?

Lack of funds not a good enough reason?

inb4 stealing booze

>going through 10 menus to do something a single press of a button can do

Well memed, Tesla.

I dont think you know what a column shifter is.
Probably why you're attracted to a Tesla.

It actually looks kinda cheap outside of promo shots and for what you pay, not the a 3 series is anything special.

You're retarded

>Driving and maintaining a car sure is just like using Veeky Forums lol

goddamn it, it reminds me of a dystopian socialist future where everyone is surrounded by this white plastic shit everywhere. there is no color or shapes anywhere. just round bullshit.
the model 3 might as well be a government issued means of transportation (that you still have to pay for because in socialism nothing is free lol)
that looks fucking disgusting. it is so bleak.

>you'll need computer equipment!
>he says through his computer equipment to a guy using computer equipment

Yeah because touchscreen buttons are super tactile and easy to operate without looking at...

>this electronic switch is a column shifter lol gasfags btfo

Nope this is a fact. Even modern airliners which are covered in screens still have tactile buttons, switches etc for their control mechanisms.

>you need a computer to use Veeky Forums
>so it's ok to need one to use your car

>non tactile
Thanks for making his point

I don't think you fully understand. The complaint was that you'll need computer equipment to service your car. You have computer equipment, so who gives a fuck?

too many buttons 5 me

Wait, so there are actually people on Veeky Forums who don't want the inside of their car to look like this?

Holy shit, what the fuck is this?

jesus christ

It looks the same, so it must be the same.

>t guitarlet

Why electric cars don't have Amps and Voltage on dashboard?

>pedals dirty and trim ripped off in a promo shot

lmao hope someone got fired

the important metrics are energy efficiency in wh/mi and power delivered or recuperated in kW

both are standard in literal every single EV. but you can often turn it off to instead show something else on the screen

shitty damage control bro

I can hear the straight cut gears through the screen.
Too many buttons are indeed gaudy, just look at any Opel interior, but replacing EVERYTHING with the touch screen is taking away attention from driving yet again. Having to browse through the menus to get to what you want instead of finding and adjusting a dial/button by reflex.

>people assume that it's difficult and dangerous to use touchscreens in a vehicle
I find it incredibly easy. Also, from the numerous model 3 reviews I've read so far, it's something that is easy to get used to.

at least try these systems out before you bash on them.

My parents can barely use their smartphones, who the fuck is this marketing to

Tfw phoneposter

t. 90’s weebcar driver

A distraction is a distraction, there is no argument for touchscreens or anything else for that matter making you a more attentive driver behind the wheel of a moving car.

You know those two scroller wheel/buttons?
They break real fucking easy
We've had a good dozen fuccbois take in their model 3s for a wrap and they were already sunk in and unresponsive

what the hell ? this cant be a promotion shot. is it ? it cant be they make it look nice atleast but cmon.
this minimalistic bullshit is just a fancy name forr cheaping out. electric cars are expensive thats it.
compare this to 3 series or C series. they are 10 times better.

Remove the big tablet and it's perfect

oh wow

>A distraction is a distraction
This.
Even a stereo is a distraction, but at least that you can operate without looking.

Top kek

i like buttons
i like pushing them
i like touching the button

>simple interiors are dead

>oh shit looks like it's starting to rain better turn on my defroster headlights and windshield wipers let me just take my eyes off the road so I can look at this single big fucking screen since actual physical buttons with tactile feedback are too Retro.

Minimalist Interiors are fucking dumb as hell and unsafe. Being able to control features on your car with tactile feedback is extremely important.

defroster control is a permanent "button" on the screen. Lights are controlled by a stalk.

at least criticize things you know about

Beat me to it

>analog gauges
>double-din stereo
>simple a/c controls with climate control optional
>4 a/c vents
>manual parking brake instead of electronic

it's perfect tbqh senpai

I love love love the fucking knobs, the VW PHaeton GP0 was the perfect car in that sense, all necessary actions could be performed with a dedicated button, no ddep menus necessary, it is heaven.

too late, fmvss 111 is in effect so every new car needs a backup camera, therefore every new car needs a screen :^)

>fmvss 111

They've always had headunits in the FR-S/BRZ/86 with screens, the one in the picture is just the base model shit stereo. So it will still be double-din and replacable.

So, it's still perfect.

No, he drives a car, with the tesla you can't even read the speed without moving your head to the center, with the BMW it's just a fast lok down, the needle also allows for an even quicker assessment of the speed. And that is just one of many points...

I honestly think that you are 13 years old.

reading the speedo on a TM3 is easy. There are plenty of cars where the speedometer is even further to the right:
>mini
>some priuses
>even the twingo

also, digital speed readouts aren't slower to "assess," you tard

I sat in a Model 3 today.

>imgur.com/urkxVkA

>you tard
Wow, look at him go...

You name the absolute worst cars and now say the model 3 is good because it's slightly less bad? That's bullshit.

Also the assessment-time and precision is worse:

Now it's your turn.

Having as few buttons as possible isn't better.
Cramming in as many buttons as possible onto the dash and steering wheel isn't better either.

fucking bastard i was gonna make that joke

But I ducking love having knobs and buttons

Except for the stereo

wheres the button that makes my tesla come with seats?

i just realized how difficult even adjusting your mirrors is in this thing

...

The only things I'd be fine with moving to a tablet are the mirror adjustments, the music player parts, and the displays next to the temperature gauge.

>Now I understand why normalfags want automated driving so badly.
Either your dumb or just born in the EU so I'll explain
Driving to work everyday is boring. I don't get to drive fast, the roads are flat and straight, it sucks. So if the car could drive me then I could do productive things like answer emails or shit for work etc.

>lmao norman you hate driving
I love driving, just not driving to work

>mfw live in rural central europe and to work I have it 11 miles on twisties with new surface and low traffic

>Driving to work everyday is boring
It sure is when you drive an anemic overweight American shitbox on completely flat and straight mid western roads, passing the usual white trash trailer parks you grew up in.

>Wanting to work while not at work but on your way towards work
What the fuck are you doing that's of such urgent importance anyway?
Wagecuckery is reaching new levels of bullshit
>In the future you can work on spreadsheets while commuting
Oh fucking joy of joys, I can spend even more time staring at a screen than I already do, thanks technology.

Holy shit how will Ameriburgers ever recover?

I am not the guy you cited, but I can work mobile, so if I can check and answer my mails on my way to work, that is time that i can add to the one i am actually on site, so that feature could be nice.

holy shit just how much of a luddite are you

I want automous cars simply so I can get an extra hour of sleep in every day. Don't be so pissy about technological advancement you moron

Then move closer to your job, or go to your job an hour later.

I can't tell if this is bait, honestly
